10 Punk Songs That Will Make Your Week (Curated by DS contributor mitchattitude)

Ever wonder what the folks who run Dying Scene have been listening to lately?  We’re going to pretend you said “yes” to that question and feature a curated playlist from a different DS editor each week with the intent of exposing you to some new kick-ass punk bands. This week we’re featuring Dying Scene contributor mitchattitude!

Check out 10 songs Mitch has been rocking lately down below.

Strung out – “No Apologies”

Strung Out were one of the main bands that I listened to growing up and it’s fantastic that they’re back with such a strong album in ‘Transmission.Alpha.Delta’. I’ve been finding it difficult to decide which track I like the best, but today it’s this one! I also think it acts as a good opener to this mix.

Teenage Bottlerocket – “Go With The Flow”

I was going to include a track from the fantastic new album ‘Tales From Wyoming’ but decided instead to include my all time favourite song of theirs. Teenage Bottlerocket are without a doubt one of my favourite ever bands and this song could be on repeat all day long and I wouldn’t ever get bored of it!

Giants At Large – “Dead Letter”

Giants At Large are a pop punk band out of New York and this track is from their new album ‘The American Dream Is Dead’. It’s been swimming around my head for the past few weeks so it just had to feature on here!

Spycatcher – “Remember Where You Were When Michael Jackson Died”

I’ll always remember where I was when I found out Michael Jackson had died, just like I’ll always remember where I was the first time I heard this song. I’ve been a big fan of these guys for a while now and this was the first track of theirs that I heard and I was instantly smitten.

PEARS – “Sycophant”

‘Go To Prison’ was one of last year’s best albums and for me this is the best track on it. I haven’t managed to catch PEARS live yet so I can only imagine the chaos in the pit when this gets played!

Dear Landlord – “Park Bench”

When I’m asked what kind of punk I like, Dear Landlord are usually the first band that comes to mind. This is yet another one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite bands.

Versus You – “One That Can See”

Versus You are from Luxemburg and play insanely catchy power-pop-punk type stuff. This track is from last year’s album ‘Moving On’ and if you like your punk rock with plenty of melody then check these guys out and indulge yourself!

The Bennies – “Anywhere You Want To Go”

The Bennies are from down under and play good time and infectious punk rock and “Anywhere You Want To Go” is a great example of that. The last minute of this song especially never ceases to get me on my feet! Crack open a tinny and play full blast.

The Swellers – “Dirt”

Time is nearly up for The Swellers which is a huge shame as they’re such a hard working and talented band, and this song has always meant a lot to me. If you were about to die what instructions/last wishes would you give to your friends and family? “Dirt” neatly outlines Nick Diener’s wishes and it’s a truly moving song.

Enemy You – “Adios (To You)”

When I found out earlier this month that David Jones had died, this song was the first thing that came to mind. Whether or not this track directly touches on his depression, it’s hard to listen to the words and not hear his pain in them. Not only is it a fantastic song but it’s also a battle cry in the face of negative influences in your life. If you’re depressed then please speak to someone, get help and know that you would be sorely missed just like David is!
