Welcome back to Answer That and Stay Fashionable, where every week various members of the Dying Scene team will take a question posed by you, the readers, and pour their hearts out in regards to all things punk rock: from favorite records and show experiences to embarrassing purchases and fashion styles. If it’s punk, it’s fair game. This week’s question:
“What punk albums are looking forward to in the second half of 2014?”
You can read our answers below.
From projects that have been announced so far, I’m excited for the new Gaslight Anthem and Joyce Manor (and I’m going to their record release show in LA, so that should be awesome!).
Lagwagon, that is all. (okay, there are others, but this is the big one for me).
Let’s see… we’ve got the Gaslight Anthem’s Get Hurt in August, and that one is probably at the top of my list as far as albums coming out in the second half of 2014, only because there’s no confirmation about anything new from the Descendents. I’m also really looking forward to the new album by Eli Whitney and the Sound Machine. If the first single that we premiered a few weeks ago is any indication, it’s going to rock pretty hard. I also think that Irish Handcuffs is supposed to be wrapping up their debut album at some point and I’d be pretty happy to hear some new stuff from them.
I also enjoy torturing myself, so I’m also kind of looking forward to hearing the new Weezer album. The two riffs that are in the video that they released the other day sound pretty good to me, and now I’m cautiously optimistic. I know it won’t be like Pinkerton or their first self-titled album, but at this point I’d be pleased to hear an album of Green/Maladroit quality.
And it’s not punk, but I’m also pretty stoked on “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Mandatory Fun. Whatever. I’m still 12 at heart, don’t judge me.
I’m looking forward to a lot of albums this year! Some of these might not be coming out in 2014 but I’m pretty excited to hear some new stuff from Lagwagon, Good Riddance, and MxPx (I still wanna believe they’re gonna release a new, non-acoustic release of some sort this year). And I’m extremely excited for the new Strung Out album! So basically, anything Fat’s putting out.
