Welcome back to Answer That and Stay Fashionable, where every week various members of the Dying Scene team will take a question posed by you, the readers, and pour their hearts out in regards to all things punk rock: from favorite records and show experiences to embarrassing purchases and fashion styles. If it’s punk, it’s fair game. This week’s question:
“What was your favorite set and/or moment at this year’s Punk Rock Bowling?”
Read our responses below.
I didn’t go to PRB this year, but my favorite set from when I did go is probably when Old Man Markley played a pool party at the Golden Nugget.
This was my first year attending Punk Rock Bowling and I can’t pick just one. I got to hang out and bowl with my fellow DSers, jumped on stage with Masked Intruder, sung into the mic during H2O’s set, and met tons of awesome punk fans.
As far as sets go, besides the bands I just listed, my favorite shows I watched included Descendents, the Adicts, Against Me, and Off With Their Heads. And even though I only caught the last few minutes, I enjoyed what I saw of Folsom and La Plebe.
I look forward to PRB every year – it’s like one big celebration and you get to meet so many fun people. This year, the highlights for me included shooting so many awesome bands (especially the Descendents – one of my favorite bands of all time), meeting Ryan Young after seeing Off With Their Heads 2 nights in a row, meeting other DyingScene writers, and seeing Against Me! – which, in my opinion, was one of the most energetic and joy-filled sets of the weekend. Bowling was fun too…but my team didn’t make it to the playoffs. Sad day. Until next year, PRB…
I didn’t go and I worked all weekend. But I bet my favorite moment would’ve involved Masked Intruder. Screw you guys for having fun.
This was my 3rd trip out for PRB but my first while working for Dying Scene. I loved getting to meet some fellow writers, and a bunch of other great punks from around the world. The people-watching is always awesome: lots of ‘hawks and great tattoos. My favorite moment was getting to see Cocksparrer, one of my all-time favorite bands. I was most surprised by The Dwarves and The Adicts, who both played phenomenal sets. We also got to see Voodoo Glow Skulls at the Backstage Bar, and they tore it up. Oh, and my fiancee rode in an elevator with the guys from Cocksparrer…though it didn’t happen to me directly, it was still pretty rad.
