Blatz to reunite for cancer benefit show

Any of you readers remember Blatz? They were a Bay Area punk band that came from the same scene as bands like Operation Ivy and Green Day. They also are notable for releasing the Shit Split LP with fellow Bay Area punks Filth.

They broke up way back in 1992, but it’s just been announced that the band will be playing their first show in 21 years – a benefit for Filth bassist Mike Montano, who has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Montano released a statement in regards to his condition:

I have been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer that requires immediate treatment. It has spread to my bones and I have run out of money on surgeries and procedures to find out what type of cancer and how advanced it is. Now that we’ve identified it, I have no money for treatment and that needs to be started immediately. I need help. Prayers help, but the finances are desperately needed.

Blatz vocalist Jesse Luscious also released a brief statement regarding the show:

When someone so closely linked to our old band got such a sudden, severe diagnosis, we were shocked into action.

The show will take place on December 27, 2013 at 924 Gilman. More information can be found here.
