It is with a sad heart that I must report Devo guitarist and co-founder Bob Casale has passed away Monday at the age of 61. Brother and Devo co-founder Gerald Casale released the following statement, revealing that Casale died from heart failure:
Very sad news to report today.
Bob Casale of Devo. Born: July 14th, 1952 . Deceased: February 17th, 2014
As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got. He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again. His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart failure came as a total shock to us all.
Gerald Casale, Devo founder.
Devo, whom I recently saw at last year’s Punk Rock Bowling, was originally formed in 1972 by Alan Myers, the Mothersbaugh (Mark and Bob) and Casale (Gerald and Bob) brothers and received worldwide fame and popularity for their unique punk/new wave/synth-pop style and outlandish attire and performances.
