Canada is a pretty damn good niche for punk rock. Whether you like the poppy stuff, the melodic/skate vibe or the famous undeniable 90’s sound, chances are, there’s a bunch of bands north of the border that are right up your alley.
Fitting somewhere in between the second and third aforementioned categories, Montreal’s Down Memory Lane have sticked to the old recipe. Just like the name suggest, they’re bringing us 20 years back with infectious melodic anthems filled with really great transitions and vocal harmonies. The band is currently working on their first album and today we’re bringing you the premiere of the quintet’s debut single “Angel Without Wings”, featuring frontman Doowy Doyon’s daughter, Melody, on some back vocals.
You can catch Down Memory Lane live today at the Music 4 Cancer Festival in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. Details can be found here.
“Angel Without Wings’ lyrics were written for my daughters. This is a song about a new beginning, and also about how being a father made me a better person! Ten years ago I was a party animal without any sense of responsibility and then one day, my first daughter came out of nowhere and changed my life for the best!! She was my first of two (angels without wings).
As for the music, everyone in the band collaborated in the making of the music or vocal parts, but the song structure was initially written by Joe (Guitar). We had the chance to work in studio with Vincent Côté! In fact, this is only a matter of time before we head back to work with him for more songs. He knows what kind of sound we want and he’s also really professional. He clearly knows how to bring out the best of ourself when we’re in the recording box!”
