Ex Pussy Riot members arrested in Sochi

Two former members of the Russian feminist group Pussy Riot were arrested in Sochi earlier this week. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina were detained alongside seven other human rights activists but were released on Tuesday and are not facing any charges. According to police they were taken in for questioning regarding a theft at the hotel where they had been staying.

Nadia had this to say, “Yesterday we spent hours at the FSB and they openly told us that we are wanted. And today we were walking along the sea near the seaport building in Sochi and we were surrounded by police, and they arrested us, saying that something was stolen in our hotel. They used force, shoved us into the car and brought us into the police station, locked in a room surrounded by police.”

These two ladies were recently kicked out of Pussy Riot even after bringing the group to national attention. You can check out the full story on why the girls are no longer a part of the group here.
