“Long story…Brian Wahlstrom and I did extensive touring together throughout 2012 and 2013. He was well aware of the idea for One Week Records because I never stopped talking about it. Haha. After having the idea for One Week Records, over a few years time, I started looking more closely at singer songwriters I met along the way. During this time I had an idea to hold a sort of contest everywhere in the world when we played acoustic shows.

The plan was to bring a local singer/songwriter up on stage at the height of our set in every town possible. This seemed to be a much better service then simply having locals open the show because, at that point in the evening everybody coming to the show is already in the venue and we usually have the audience full attention.

We would announce each night that we had picked this person out of many local musicians because he or she was our favorite and we believed local peers who may not be aware of him or her should be. The crowd was always very receptive, a great part of each show.

We posted our dates and our mission and received video submissions. They had to be local though. We vetted our soon to be new friends and It was amazing how many people uploaded videos from each city we alerted. So many of these talented people turned out to be more amazing in person than we could have imagined. It worked out so well, and early on, I realized that this was a sort of accidental way of finding our One Week artist, a cleverly disguised A&R technique. A number of the “One Week” records I am doing now are people I met this way. In hind sight it is one of the coolest things I’ve been involved in and a great way of networking with my peers that has resulted in some lifelong friendships as well. Jo Bergeron was our choice for Quebec City, Quebec, Canada and I am very proud of his album. The next 2 records following his will also be artist I met this way, on stage. Laura Mardon from Gold Coast, Australia and Betty and The Boy from Eugene, Oregon.

I hope people appreciate this story and Jo’s album. I think he’s amazing! -Joey”
