It’s been a while since we had a good scandal to write about, but Jonny Craig (singer for Emarosa and Dance Gavin Dance) has seen fit to change that, and for that we thank him (Tosh.0, anybody?). Last week it came to light that the frontman had been using twitter to convince a good handful of fans to send him money for a MacBook he claimed to be selling before the goods actually changed hands. A brilliant scam, but with one tiny flaw. People actually get pissed off when they pay for things and don’t receive them, even if it is a rock star who has ripped them off. Craig isn’t exactly an anonymous internet scam artist from Nigeria so it didn’t take long before he was busted.
If you’re wondering what could lead somebody to do something so clearly idiotic, the answer is relatively simple; Drugs. Turns out Jonny has himself a bit of a drug problem and getting called out on his shenanigans was apparently just enough to send him packing for rehab. Word is he’s now checked in to a North Hollywood detox facility and his benevolent management company and record label (Artery Foundation and Rise Records) are making things right financially with the fans he duped in his genius MacBook scam.
