Astute Dying Scene followers will remember our two-part exclusive interview with the one-and-only Fletcher Dragge from about six months ago. Among the myriad topics discussed during that epic read was the post-Jim, pre-Zoli era, during which time the remaining three Pennywise members tried out a host of new singers in the wake of Jim’s initial departure.
One of the names that Fletcher tossed around was Jay Navarro of the Suicide Machines and Break Anchor. Now, we all know that Pennywise put out a kick ass album, “All Or Nothing,” with Zoli Teglas in the frontman role, and that longtime singer/songwriter Jim Lindberg has recently rejoined the band. But did you ever wonder what the band would sound like with Navarro at the helm?
Wonder no more, punk fans. Thanks to the kind folks at Underground Communique Records, the Jay Navarro-Pennywise demos have seen the light of day. Click here to check out Jay’s take on the Pennywise classics “Society,” “Living For Today” and “Peaceful Day.”

no way!! strange
That’s cool and all but I’d really like to hear what they sound like with Jason DeVore from Authority Zero on vox.
Not bad but Zoli was the right move for sure. All or nothing was a great album.
wow thats crazy weird. reminds me of the deviates with jay on vocals. id also like to hear jason davore’s take
i still loved the idea of efrem schulz.
That sucked
I wouldn’t make it thru peaceful day… no f’n way. Zoli was perfect and as a long time PW fan I don’t see their next record beating the power of All Or Nothing. That was hands down the best record to come out this year. Amazing.
i honestly don’t get the obsession that people have with jim. yeah, he was responsible for the classics. he was also responsible for the “lazy songs that all sounded the same.” i love all the pennywise albums and have listened hundreds of times. i’ll defend an album like “from the ashes” all day long. but zoli represented such a fresh and interesting change, while keeping things true. pennywise was always about fast songs with positive lyrics. honestly, i hear that a lot better in all or nothing than i do in the black pacific album (though i love the darker feel of that one).
Jim and Fletcher were interviewed on KRoq radio recently about the reunion, they mentioned Zoli singing was Jim’s idea. Also mentioned Zoli begging Jim to come back. The interview seemed to contradict everything we might have heard before about Jim’s departure.
nope! didn’t do it for me. zoli was the best choice
yeah, Zoli was definitely the better choice! Btw, are there any studio/demo takes of Zoli doing older PW songs?
