Mixtapes recording new album

Mixtapes recording new album

Following up on our report from two months ago, it seems that Ohio’s Mixtapes are keeping the momentum from last year’s Even on the Worst Nights going by recording a second album, rather than a handful of EPs and singles to be released every few months. Guitarist and co-vocalist Maura Weaver posted a lengthy update on the band’s recording process, which you can read right here.

We’ll keep you posted on more details as they surface.

Mixtapes released their debut full length, Even on the Worst Nights, in June 2012, although they’ve also re-issued their acoustic mini-album, How to Throw a Successful Party, on vinyl, and put out Vision Quest, a split EP with Broadway Calls, in the time since.

“Hey!

So, I haven’t made a proper post on here recently, but we started recording a new album about a week and a half ago and I just wanted to UPDATE Y’ALL.

I guess it’s not surprising for us considering how often we release stuff, but it’s been only nine months since we released our last album, Even on the Worst Nights. WHY are we making another album so soon, you might ask?! Well, first of all, we were already writing a bunch of songs before we decided to release anything. We’ve been home and not touring since November, so naturally we’ve been writing stuff. For a while we were thinking we were just going to do an EP in time for Warped Tour, but then we were like, “Why wouldn’t we just do a full-length?” We talked and think EPs are forgotten sometimes when released between albums. People are more likely to listen to a full-length, and we want people to hear these songs we’re proud of!

Secondly, although we love Even on the Worst Nights a ton and are really proud of it, there are some things that we’ve looked back on and think we would’ve done differently with the album, and we want a chance to do those things with this album. For example, we spent a lot of time on the album and went in really prepared but when it was finished we didn’t really try to promote the album much. A lot of our online stuff has been outdated for a while; we never even made many goofy music videos for songs or anything like we usually do, or did a ton of interviews. We wanna do that! Also, for the first time we were really prepared to record when we went in the studio to do EOTWN. Usually when we record, everything happens pretty spontaneously and we’re unprepared, often learning songs for the first time the night before recording, and putting them together in the studio. When we did EOTWN, we knew pretty much exactly how we wanted the songs to sound, how we wanted the album art to look and what we wanted the title to be. That was fine—the album turned out awesome and it was nice being prepared. But we decided to do kind of the opposite this time around—we didn’t want the album to sound super tight and compact and prepared the whole way through—we wanted the songs to be able to breathe, and be more dynamic and “raw” this time around, as dumb as I’m sure that sounds. There’s not much breathing room during Even on the Worst Nights. So we’ve been trying whatever weird ideas we have, and putting everything together in the studio and the songs sound awesome so far. Our friend Ryan Russell of Nervous Energies and other cool stuff was here taking photos for our album yesterday, and we didn’t really have any idea of what we wanted the album art to look like, which kind of worried me at first, but I think the pictures turned out even better that way.

So, yeah! I can’t wait to post more iNfOrMaTioN. Expect weird videos. We’re recording vocals right now and have about ten songs completely done with vocals and stuff. We’ll be recording every day until the end of the week.
I GOTTA GO ERIC IS ABOUT TO LEAVE HIS HOUSE SO WE GOTTA LEAVE BUT BYE C U LATER SOON ok
