Punk Rock Trivia: Keanu Reeves was in The Vandals?

Every once in a while the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene like to unleash some punk rock trivia to enlighten and enhance the minds of you, the readers. Today’s trivia is about The Vandals and their unlikely celebrity fill-in.

Most of us know Keanu Reeves as the master of wooden expression, carefully exploring his craft in a number of big Hollywood pictures. But, aside from his actorly pursuits, it turns out Reeves can also play the bass. While most of his four-string talents were parlayed into the alt-rock band Dogstar (1991-2002), he also filled in for The Vandals when Joe Escalante was unable to play for a New Year’s Eve gig

Apparently, no video footage can be found of Keanu rocking out with The Vandals, but to hear his work in Dogstar, click here.

i found out through a freind at work that this had happened as it was published in the local paper (antelope valley press). I knew the church was located outside of my town, but everything looks the same here (all desert), so trying to pinpoint the church was like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles, so since they printed the cross streets in the paper, i was able to quickly locate it and went to check it out. There wasn’t much graffiti on the outside, just some gang lingo (on where the ambulances were parked at in the movie), but inside was pretty trashed. They had ripped up the carpet, thrown toilet paper through the rafters and destroyed hymnals, broke the organ and piano and had blue paint everywhere. I was surprised no one had busted out the windows, but there is a house within a block away, so i figure that they didn’t want to draw too much attention to themselves. At any rate, it is a pretty dang secluded area, not much there, but needless to say i would love to volunteer to help the pastor and congregation clean up the place it’s like a friggin shrine to me to be honest and let me tell you, if i ever get married again, i’m gettin married there!!Just wanted to share what i experienced. Keep up the good work on the site!!
