R.I.P. Philip Chevron (The Pogues), 1957-2013

Philip Chevron, of The Pogues, and The Radiators From Space, has passed away after battling cancer. He was 56.

Chevron was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2007, and it returned last year in an inoperable form. The band announced his passing today on their Facebook page:

After a long illness we are sorry to inform you that Philip passed away peacefully this morning and we all send our sincere condolences to his family.

He had announced in May that he was taking a break from his bands. Chevron joined The Pogues shortly after they released their 1984 album “Red Roses for Me.” The band will be playing a short tour in the UK in December, where they will perform their classic album “Rum, Sodomy, and The Lash” in its entirety, and it had been unclear whether or not Chevron would join them.

Rest in peace, man.
