Random Cover Song: The Ergs! – “Linus and Lucy” (Vince Guaraldi Trio)

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

Today’s cover song comes from The Ergs! and their rendition of “Linus and Lucy,” written by Vince Guaraldi and performed by The Vince Guaraldi Trio. The original version was written by Guaraldi in 1964 and is best known as the de facto theme song to the Peanuts animated specials based on Charles Schultz’s cartoon strip of the same name, the song even being named after the van Pelt siblings from the strip. The Ergs! released their cover on their 2008 b-sides and rarities compilation, Hindsight is 20/20, My Friend.

You can listen to both versions of “Linus and Lucy” below.
