Canadian punks The Mahones have chosen the current political climate to release a lyric video for “Riot Tonight”, from 2015’s “The Hunger & The Fight (Part Two)”. You can watch the video – and read a statement about the decision to make the video – below.
On the video:
“We wrote and recorded this song in 2015. Since then, we have grown increasingly horrified by the rise of racist, islamophobic, homophobic, transphobic, anti-semitic and xenophobic sentiments worldwide. Borders are being closed and families torn apart. Children are drowning on the shores of industrialized nations. Within Western borders, Indigenous and Aboriginal communities continue to be marginalized and discarded, their lands and cultures ripped away in exchange for crude oil and brutality.
But there is still so much hope: people keep coming together to march against injustice, to protest cruelty, to defend human rights. As long we fight back, the slow and painful evolution of humanity will continue. We must never stop fighting for what’s right.
Be part of the solution. Be on the right side of history. As the late great Joe Strummer once said, punk rock means exemplary manners to your fellow human beings.”
