Tony Sly of No Use For A Name has passed away

A truly sad day in punk rock today as Fat Wreck Chords has just announced that Tony Sly, front-man for long running punk act No Use For A Name, has passed away.  Details are sparse at the moment.  So far, the only information about Tony’s death has come from the following statement on the Fat Wreck website:

It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye to Tony Sly of No Use For A Name. We received a call earlier today of his passing, and are devastated. We have lost an incredible talent, friend, and father – one of the true greats. Fat Mike had this to say: “One of my dearest friends and favorite song writers has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed.”

We’ll keep you posted as details surface.  Until then, everybody should go play their favorite NUFAN album in memory of a great and talented figure in punk rock.

I never really listened to NUFAN, but I’ve got to say it’s a sad day when one of our own passes. And there’s no doubt that Tony Sly was one of our own. His contribution to punk rock will be remembered and revered.

    RIP Tony.

I’m totally baffled by this!! No Use was one of my favorite bands growing up. I’m lucky enough to have seen them live quite a few times and also to have met Tony outside of the Paradise in Boston, MA. He was an awesome dude and totally kind to put up with a couple of drunks after the show telling him that he should have played “Postcard”.. I was anticipating the new acoustic cd with Joey Cape and also fired up to hear that maybe No Use may have had new material on the way. Just a crazy and sad day for sure :(
