Atlas Losing Grip throw in the towel

After 11 years as a band, Swedish skate punks Atlas Losing Grip have called it quits, making the announcement through a YouTube video and a short statement. They don’t cite specific reasons for breaking up, but instead say there are, “Too many reasons to mention really.”

ALG was set to play Manchester Punk Festival later this month, but according to festival organizers, they have cancelled. So it seems as though the band will not be playing any farewell shows; we’ll keep you posted if we hear otherwise, though.

Over the course of a decade, Atlas Losing Grip released three albums – Shut the World Out, State of Unrest (one of my all-time favorite records), and Currents – and the Watching the Horizon EP. From 2009-2014, the band was fronted by Rodrigo Alfaro of Satanic Surfers.

Atlas Losing Grip premiere new song “Cynosure” off upcoming album “Currents”

Today we’re totally stoked to bring you the premiere of a brand new tune from Swedish melodic skate punks Atlas Losing Grip.  “Cynosure” is a fantastic little track off the band’s upcoming album “Currents” and you can check it out in the form of a lyric video below.

“Currents” is due out January 16th and the band will be hitting the European road in January/February to support it.  Oddly enough Atlas Losing Grip recently announced the departure of longtime singer Rodrigo Alfaro citing what appear to be differences in opinion over the band’s direction and amount of time spent on the road.  Sounds much like the Jim/Pennywise debacle of a few years ago.  Much like Pennywise did back then, Atlas Losing Grip have already found themselves a new singer in Niklas Olsson who will be singing all the band’s classics (new and old) on their upcoming tour.

The band’s last full-length album State of Unrest was released back in 2011 through Black Star Foundation.

Swedish skate punks Atlas Losing Grip have posted an update about their upcoming album:

Right now we’re in the tour bus somewhere outside of Milano and a big, yellow half moon is our only company on the highway to the airport. We’ve been touring in Italy the last couple of weeks and we have another weekend to go before we head out to some festivals in Germany and Spain. We’ve been jamming and working on/practicing some of the best songs from the new album, and I just want to tease you and say: MAAAN WE ARE SO STOKED TO LET YOU HEAR THIS NEW ALBUM OF OURS! It’s gonna be a gamechanger for us and let us finally tour all the weird places from where YOU come! So please, tell us: Where in the world are you living, and want us to come? Country/City, come one!! xoxo /Gustav
