Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine change name to Cold Wrecks, announce new album ‘Breaking’, and stream new song “Drawbridge”

Brooklyn sometimes ska/sometimes punk/all-time feels act Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine have officially announced that they are abandoning their old name and will be now known as Cold Wrecks. The name change came about because, as the band puts it:

“[W]hen we started working on new songs together, we knew we were a completely different band, and didn’t feel comfortable using the old band’s moniker and songs.”

Additionally, Cold Wrecks have announced a new album titled Breaking. and are streaming the album’s first single, “Drawbridge.” Produced and engineered by Jesse Cannon and Mike Oettinger, Breaking will be released on July 11, 2016 and can be pre-ordered here.  You can check out “Drawbridge” and read more about the name change here.

Cold Wrecks (as Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine) last released Tiny Refuge in October 2015. The band plans on re-releasing the EP under their new name in the future.



Freya Wilcox & the Howl and Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine announce US tour

Brooklyn acts Freya Wilcox & the Howl and Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine have announced a that they will be heading out together on the “Keep Sinking Tour,” around the United States this month. Freya Wilcox & the Howl released their latest EP, Bareknuckle Love, in May 2015. Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine released Tiny Refuge in October 2015.

This version of the song is taken from the band’s new EP, Tiny Refuge, although an acoustic version of the song originally appeared on the band’s 2014 album, Reasons to LeaveTiny Refuge was released on October 13, 2015. You can stream or download it here.



Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine release ‘Tiny Refuge’ EP, announce pre-Fest tour

Brooklyn ska-punk act Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine have released their new EP, Tiny Refuge. The EP is light on the ska, but the band promises that the lack of ska won’t be a permanent thing. The EP is available as a name-your-price download via Eli Whitney’s Bandcamp page.

The band will also be heading out on a short tour this month to coincide with their appearance at this year’s Fest. You can check out the dates and locations, as well as a stream of Tiny Refuge, below.

Tiny Refuge is the follow up to Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine’s sophomore LP, Reasons to Leave, which was released on August 1, 2014. Reasons to Leave is also available to stream or download on Bandcamp



Best Friends Artist Collective announce inaugural festival

The Best Friends Artist Collective (aka BFAC), a Brooklyn-based group of artists and musicians, will be throwing their first ever summer showcase, dubbed B-FEST, tomorrow, Saturday July 18, 2015. The all-day event will be located at the Bushwick Public House in Brooklyn, NY, and feature acoustic and electric performances by acts and members of Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine, Sketchy, High Falls, and Freya Wilcox & The Howl (and more!). Additionally, the showcase will highlight local poets and artists selling their work. The best part? The entire festival is donation based! You can find out more information here.

Brooklyn’s blues/punk act Freya Wilcox and the Howl and ska-punk act Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine have announced a two week tour, titled “The Screamy Feelings Tour,” around the United States Midwest before both acts head north to play Pouzza Fest. Punk Island 2014 launches Kickstarter

Punk Island, an annual all-day, all-ages free punk festival will be held on June 21 at Staten Island Pier 1 featuring 7 stages and almost 100 bands. Some of the bands confirmed so far are the Jukebox Romantics,  Lost In SocietyEli Whitney And The Sound Machine and a bunch more.

The organizers, who consist primarily of DIY bookers in the NYC scene such as ABC No Rio, Dispatches from the Underground, Candy Apple Red, Brooklyn Transcore, and Taking Back Queens, have launched a kickstarter to help cover the costs of the event.

Eli Whitney & The Sound Machine are currently wrapping up efforts on their sophomore album, Reasons To Leave, and are hoping for a release sometime in 2014. Eli Whitney released their debut album, Mickey, in November 2011.
