“The Gift” is taken from the album of the same name which is released today. The Gift is Hi-Standard’s first full length album since Making the Road in 1999, and the band will be touring in support of the new album later this year. You can find tour dates and information here.



Hi-Standard announce new album “The Gift”

Japanese punk veterans Hi-Standard have announced their new album The Gift will be released on October 4th. The record’s cover was designed by Frank Kozik, who has also worked with The Offspring, Green Day, and Blink-182. The tracklist features 16 brand new songs.

Japanese pop-punkers Hi-Standard have announced they will release their latest EP “Vintage and New, Gift Shits” on December 7th via Pizza Of Death Records.

The release will feature four cover songs of classic non-punk tunes: “I Get Around” (The Beach Boys), “You Can’t Hurry Love” (The Supremes), “Money Changes Everything” (Cyndi Lauper) and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” (John Lennon).

HD Video: Jason Cruz and Fat Mike join Hi-Standard to cover No Use For A Name

So this is pretty cool. A couple days ago a high def video surfaced on the web of a Hi-Standard show in Japan in which Jason Cruz of Strung Out and Fat Mike of NOFX joined the Japanese punk legends on stage to pay homage to Tony Sly in the form of a couple No Use For A Name covers. Jason sang “Soulmate” while Mike did “Justified Black Eye”. The video and audio recording is great but the covers themselves might leave some room for improvement. Either way, it’s cool to watch so check it out below.



Hi-Standard releasing “Live At Air Jam” DVD, stream trailer

The first Japanese punk band most of you readers ever knew about, Hi-Standard, are still alive and kicking and on February 22nd they’ll be releasing a DVD to prove it.  “Live At Air Jam 2011” will available through Pizza Of Death Records and features live footage of the band’s performance at, yep, Air Jam in 2011.
