Split Review: John Creeden / Jesse Lebourdais – “Home”

“Home” is a warm and heartfelt folk punk 7″ about the hardships of the road life by two rising stars in the Canadian punk scene: Ontario’s Jon Creeden and Jesse LeBourdais, formerly of the Vancouver skate punk band Cambridge. If you have yet to hear this one, you can find our exclusive stream of it right here.

Creeden’s guitar playing has a wide range of skill, as Side A’s “Decaying Cities” effectively demonstrates. The intro is clean and delicate but then the song moves into a wonderful wailing chorus that if electrified would bear some similarities to the likes of Red City Radio or Dear Landlord. Vocally, “Burnt Out Frame” (Side B) is certainly cleaner, but the same tone of desperation and longing is still completely present in Lebourdais’s voice and lyrics. The piano is a welcome addition and blends in wonderfully with the tune. Lyrically, both songs focus about the struggles of life as a musician on tour, and they capture that concept with skill.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing what else these two have to offer on their next releases.
