Buffalo, NY has seen a bit of a punk rock Renaissance in the past few years, with bands like ska-punks Seven Thirty Seven, oi! band The Chosen Ones, and ska/reggae outfit The Abruptors calling this bygone outpost of the Empire State their home.  On The Cinder is definitely carrying the punk rock banner for this cadre of awesome Buffalo bands.  Keep reading below to read more about their latest release, The Fight Against Ourselves, which came out in April.

Review: On the Cinder’s new EP, “Caustic”

They say that the backbone of any band is their bass and drums, and the first thing you’ll pick up on when you listen to Caustic, the 3rd EP release from Buffalo’s On the Cinder  is the big focus on drums.  Tyler Rzemek’s quick burst of drums leads you right into “Brothers and Fools,” the first song on their new 3-track EP.  The band cites bands like Authority Zero, A Wilhelm Scream, and The Lawrence Arms as some of their influences, and I wouldn’t argue with that on their earlier releases, but this release is definitely on the harder side.

On the Cinder releases video for “For the Lost and the Loud”

Buffalo, NY’s On the Cinder just put out a new video for the track “For the Lost and the Loud,” and you can check it out below.

On the Cinder’s guitarist Jason Wright shared some neat info about the video.  The video (which is surprisingly good)  was actually recorded by the band itself.  The basement show at the end of the video was actual footage of a show in the band’s basement, shot long before anyone thought of making a music video.

Wright describes “For the Lost and the Loud” this way:

The song itself was written with the Buffalo underground punk scene in mind.  It’s sort of about creating our own scene and our own community, and the video follows in the same vein with the main character skating from place to place trying to find the right place to call home and the right group of people to call friends and family.  Ultimately it ends it a basement show followed by a campfire with a scene of some friends sitting around and playing some songs around a fire.

On the Cinder is set to release a new 7″ in January via Between the Days Records, and they will embark on a tour of the East Coast and Midwest starting in March.
