Tau Cross (featuring members of Amebix, Voivod, Misery and War//Plague) to release new album this summer

International punk/metal supergroup Tau Cross have announced that they will release their second studio album, tentatively titled A Pillar of Fire, this summer via Relapse Records. Like with their self-titled debut album, it was recorded across many different locations, and the drums were tracked Montreal, guitars in Minneapolis, bass in Seattle and Minneapolis, and vocals on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Bassist/vocalist Rob Miller on the album: “This approach can be challenging given the location of the band members, but it is a necessity that we have tried to turn into a strength. Video conferencing and messenger services have been helpful in guiding the process to completion.

The album was mixed at Smiddy studios on the isle of Skye by James Adams, who has also taken on duties as our keyboard player. We have had contributions from Themis for some of the ambient sounds on the album, a hurdy-gurdy from Tanner Anderson and even bagpipes from 16-year-old Scottish virtuoso Brighde Chaimbeul, so there are some interesting textures, with an emphasis on the lyrical content. As usual, we have constructed a few intriguing landscapes for the listener to engage with.”

Tau Cross features Rob Miller of Amebix, Michel “Away” Langevin of Voivod, Jon Misery of Misery and Andy Lefton of War//Plague.  They released their self-titled debut album in May 2015.

Voivod to release new album next year

In a recent interview, Voivod drummer Michel “Away” Langevin revealed that the band the legendary Canadian metal band is planning to release a new album next year, which will be their first since 2013’s Target Earth. He states:

“We wanna release a bunch of seven-inch [singles] first. We have many split seven-inch [singles] coming up this year — the first one with At the Gates in April, and the new want to do another one with Napalm [Death], and another one with Corrections House, and so on. But eventually we’ll write a whole bunch of songs and compile everything into an album, I would say, early next year. Right now we’re sort of touring on the new single that came out the first day of the [current] tour in Miami, ‘We Are Connected’. But this is coming out in April as a seven-inch with At the Gates.”

Away was also asked if their recently-released new song “We Are Connected” is a good representation of Voviod’s direction for the next album. He replied, “Absolutely. It’s shameless prog rock, but it’s Voviod, and the thrash metal [influences are] there. It’s what we do naturally. We are working on two new songs in the back of the bus on the computer, and it’s definitely the same direction as ‘We Are Connected’.”

You can watch the interview below.

Away just recently joined the international punk/metal supergroup Tau Cross, who are planning to release their debut album this spring on Relapse Records.

Tau Cross (featuring members of Amebix, Voivod, Misery and War//Plague) sign to Relapse Records

International punk/metal supergroup Tau Cross ― featuring Rob Miller of Amebix, Michel “Away” Langevin of Voivod, Jon Misery of Misery and Andy Lefton of War//Plague ― have signed to Relapse Records, and already finished recording their debut album, which is expected to be released this spring. Miller on the project:

“The music that evolved over this time is difficult to categorize, as there is clearly a lot of Amebix in the songwriting as well as some elements of gothic, Joy Division, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Industrial and hard fucking old-school punk rock. This is an entirely original work that is the organic fusion of four unique people.

We decided to let the songs form themselves around the original demos and allow people to bring themselves into the mix, to allow the bark to grow around the tree. We are all very proud of what we have achieved in this short time and looking forward to working together again as soon as time allows.”

Miller also talked about the band playing live and signing to Relapse, “Tau Cross will be playing live over the coming year, we hope to tour in the U.S and Europe, it is still early days but I feel this is going to be an intense live experience.

We were introduced to Relapse through a mutual friend, Brad Boatright at Audioseige Mastering, and were delighted that they stepped up and took this under their wing straight away. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
