Set Your Goals working on new album

In a recent interview, Set Your Goals singer Jordan Brown revealed the band’s working on a new album which they hope to record and release in 2017. Here’s what he had to say:

“Musically, we’ve never had this much content. I usually write and feel out rhythms acoustically. Then, we bring everyone else in, and we build in guitars and everything. We’re talking to a few people to do the record. We’re going to go back sonically to what we did in our second album. Just really big guitars, drums, and something that hits really hard but carries the energy of our other records. We’re hoping to record in the spring and have it out by summer [of 2017].”

Set Your Goals’ latest album Burning at Both Ends was released in 2011 on Epitaph Records. We’ll keep you posted as more details on the band’s next record are revealed.

Matt Wilson (Set Your Goals) announces Kickstarter to launch record label

Matt Wilson has launched a new campaign to fund Calaveras Records, a new label that the Set Your Goals singer hopes to start:

“I’ve always wanted to start a record label, and this was the little “push” I needed to get me going. 2014 marks the 10 year anniversary of our demo’s release and our band’s career. As a vinyl enthusiast, I thought it only natural to make some really cool vinyl for the occasion, and try my best to get it out in time for Record Store Day 2014. In order to do this, there are some very strict deadlines I must meet (pressing vinyl takes a long time!), which is why this Kickstarter project is only about 2 weeks long.”

To donate, head over to Kickstarter and check out the project.

Set Your Goals to record new album in January, release statement regarding drummer departure

San Francisco pop-punk act, Set Your Goals, have announced that they will be recording a new album in January with Chad Gilbert producing, Paul Miner engineering, and Mike Green mixing everything in Los Angeles. Additionally, they have released a statement regarding the departure of their drummer:

As many may know, Mikey will be playing his final shows with Set Your Goals on December 2nd and 7th, at the Metro Opera House in Oakland and Chain Reaction in Anaheim. Most importantly with this news, we want everyone to know that there are no hard feelings between anyone in the band and that we are/have always been friends above all else. Everyone in Set Your Goals wishes him the best in all of his future endeavors, music and otherwise. If you wish to get in touch, Mike is welcoming questions or messages from anyone who wants to reach him via Twitter @MikeAmbrose636 or on Facebook.

To answer a couple quick questions, we are indeed still working on new music for an album we’ll be recording in Orange County in January, and we’ll be taking to touring as soon as that is all finished up. Chad Gilbert will be producing with Paul Miner engineering, and Mike Green will be mixing everything in Los Angeles. Mike produced “This Will Be The Death Of Us” in 2009 and helped out with a few small pieces on “Burning At Both Ends” in 2011 as well. We are very excited about his involvement on the mixing side of the release, and we are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to work with Chad and Paul (whom we recorded the two digital iTunes singles with in February) on a full-length. We hope to have everything released in Summer 2013 with Epitaph. We plan to tour rigorously in support of the album and are stoked to return to some of the cities we haven’t played in a while.

Once more, we can’t wait to return to the studio and create new material to share with all of you again! The biggest thank you to everyone who keeps an eye out, drops a line to say hello, or even shares photos, videos, or stories from a show. Your continued support means the world to us and it’s what keeps us going through the ups and downs. We wish all of you the best as this year comes to a close and we head into 2013.

Much love,

SYG

Set Your Goals split with longtime drummer

Punk rockers Set Your Goals have parted ways with drummer Mike Ambrose. He released the following statement:

Dear friends, family, and fans, it’s with a heavy heart that I report that my time with Set Your Goals has come to an end. My final shows with SYG will be December 2nd at the Oakland Metro and December 7th at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. What this band has been able to fulfill thus far is beyond the dreams I had 8 years ago and I’m extremely proud of our accomplishments. The guys are going to continue on without me and are in the middle of writing new material to be released next year. We’re still all on good terms and the band has asked to please hold off on inquiries about the position for the time being. I’m in no way finished with my love affair with drums and music and am fired up about the possibilities that lie ahead. An enormous thank you must be said to the innumerable companions made along the journey so far- your support and devotion to the band and myself has fueled us. We shall meet again.
