Break Even announce break up

Posted by Kelce Coon on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 2:48 PM (PST)

The Australian group, Break Even, has announced they will be calling it quits. Here’s a statement from the band:

It is with sadness that we announce Break Even have decided to part ways. Over time the commitments in our lives other than the band have become more important and despite our best efforts to persist with the band after all the writing and touring over the last few years we have to come to the end of the road.

Soundwave festival will be the bands last tour but they will be announcing a few last shows soon.

A Death In The Family (2004-2012)

Posted by hayley on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:19 PM (PST)

Melbourne punk act, A Death In The Family have decided to call it a day. A statement from the band can be read here:

A DEATH IN THE FAMILY band is no longer. To cut to the chase, we’ve hit a cross-roads (or dead-end as it seems). Each of our lives and circumstances are vastly different than they were a few years ago and as a group we’ve simply decided now is a good time to move on, rather than pushing on. As a band we’ve done more than we ever imagined and made life long friends in many parts of the world.

This ship has sailed. ADITF 2004 – 2012. Thanks for the memories.

The band last released “Origins” in June 2010 via Resist Records.

Label Spotlight: Poison City Records

Posted by brittles on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 5:57 PM (PST)

Poison City Records is a label, record shop and distributor. I first became aware of the label when I bought the Daysworth Fighting and Lead Sketch Union EPs. Both were great and so I checked out the label and their other releases. From that beginning, I ended up living in Melbourne where the label is based, stopping past regularly to hunt for new vinyl. One of the great things about that was Andy Hayden, the owner of Poison City, is one of the nicest guys you’ll meet.  He’s been able to bring out some of my favourite bands, put on some great shows and Poison City continues to release great music from Australian bands. I chatted to him about the label, the decision to expand and the “Weekender.” Read the interview here.

Blkout working on new full-length album

Posted by Lauren Mills on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 8:40 AM (PST)

Perth Australia’s hardcore outfit, Blkout, are currently working on a new full-length album which they hope to have out sometime early next year. Here’s what they had to say,

Tonight we are going to be setting up to start demoing tracks for the new LP. At this stage we should be recording the album (some time around) November so we’re hoping it will be out early next year. We’ve got about 9 songs so far, so we still have a few more to write, but with nicknames for songs like “Bonecrusher riff” you know they’re going to be hard. Also, let us know what old songs and b-sides you want us to play live. We’re going to have a fundraiser show for the new record at some stage soon in the coming months.

The band released their 7-inch EP “”No Justice, No Peace” through Resist Records.

Few things in life are unforgettable. The first day of high school. Your first kiss. Your first stage dive. Wait…what? Yeah, I said it. I’ll never forget that first fantastic lift off into the crowd with Australia’s mega metalcore quintet Parkway Drive at my back. As I was talking with their singer, Winston McCall, later backstage, he told me he has “always been a fan of the stage dive.” I felt I did him proud and true, and now as my bones ache Winston, I think of you.

He and I had a great chat in the backyard of The Beaumont Club in Kansas City, Missouri after their set. We covered such niceties as winning an ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) award and having your idol on your new record. Winston talked to me about writing and recording for the newest album, “Deep Blue,” and how they really wanted to “be themselves” and “make a record that sounded like us.”
