August Burns Red reveal details about upcoming album

Posted by Dustin Ramone on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11:30 AM (PST)

August Burns Red guitarist JB Brubaker recently sat down to talk about some of the things that fans can expect from his band’s upcoming album. Here’s a snippet of what he had to say:

“Metalcore is not an interesting genre at this point. It’s very repetitive and predictable; I want more than breakdowns and pop choruses these days. [...] I’ve just been out to pick up some bongos, congas, rototoms, bells and other stuff. There are a whole bunch of shakers, tambourines and whistles already at the studio and this afternoon we’re tracking a Mexican fiesta drum section over one of our new songs. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before.”

August Burns Red post status update on upcoming album

Posted by Johnny X on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:52 PM (PST)

PA metalcore outfit August Burns Red are almost done tracking their new album. The band posted the following statement regarding the progress:

Hey everyone, I wanted to update you on where we are currently at with the recording of our 5th full length album. We officially started tracking about a month ago and by the end of this week we will be completely finished with the tracking phase of the album. Dustin wrapped up bass yesterday and Matt just put the finishing touches on his drums by sprinkling some overdubs (tambourine, shakers, conga, etc) over a bunch of songs. JB and Brent wrapped up all their guitars last week and Jake will be done recording vocals in a couple days.

What does all this mean? Well, we are nearly done with the hard work aspect of this album and can get into the mixing, which is the fun stuff. While nearly all the elements are in place, the levels of each instrument are all over the place. We’ll be spending all of next week mixing the album and making sure it sounds awesome. After working on this intensely for the last few months, we are beyond excited to hear all the elements come together.

I’m terrible at describing our music so I’ll just say that this album is going to be a really fun listen with a lot of meat to sink your teeth into. We can’t wait for you to hear it!

Thanks for caring,

JB/ABR”

August Burns Red set to begin recording on new album next week

Posted by milhouse on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 1:53 PM (PST)

Back in December, we reported on August Burns Red writing new material for an upcoming album. Today the announcement has come that the band will be entering the studio next week to begin recording work for their new, fifth studio full-length album. Here’s what the band had to say about the whole thing.

2012 turned out to be quite intense for us from a touring standpoint,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “We did more traveling than we had ever previously done in our career and after three straight months on the road to end the year I think we were all ready to come home and shift into writing/recording mode. Now that the writing is complete we are all itching to get started with the actual tracking.”

“This new record will push the boundaries of our genre more than we ever have before,” Brubaker continues excitedly. “We set out to write a record where every song stands out from the last. There is a lot of ground covered here and a ton of meat to this album. It’s full of odd metered rhythms and breakdowns, unexpected twists and turns, and some of our most technical riffing to date. Each of us have parts that make our heads spin and we have had to practice like crazy to get some of this stuff together. I know we always say this, but this will be our most ambitious album yet.”

The band’s last release, “Sleddin’ Hill, a Holiday Album”, came out on last October through Solid State Records.
