Corrosion of Conformity talk about recording new album with Pepper Keenan

Corrosion of Conformity members Mike Dean and Reed Mullen were recently interviewed by Metal Gods TV, where they talk about their reunion with guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan, who last performed with the band in 2006. On the possibility of a new album with Keenan, who last recorded with the band on 2005’s In the Arms of God, Mullin stated:

“I think it’s gonna happen. I think it’ll come to fruition. This was kind of like the testing ground to see how folks reacted, and right off the bat, everybody has been super stoked, super positive. So I can’t imagine anything but us gearing up to do an album and more touring and stuff.”

You can watch the interview below.

Due to commitments with his other band Down, Keenan did not participate in the band’s 2010 reunion, which lasted for two albums (2012’s Corrosion of Conformity and last year’s IX) and one EP (Megalodon, also released in 2012).

Corrosion of Conformity announce reunion tour with Pepper Keenan

Corrosion of Conformity recently announced plans to hit the studio this month to begin work on a new album with Keenan for the first time since 2005’s In the Arms of God. Due to commitments with his other band Down, Keenan did not participate in the band’s 2010 reunion, which lasted for two albums (2012’s Corrosion of Conformity and last year’s IX) and one EP (Megalodon, also released in 2012).

Corrosion of Conformity to begin work on new album in January with Pepper Keenan

In a recent interview, Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin said that the legendary punk/metal band will enter the studio in January to begin recording their next album with its onetime guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan. He explains:

“If we start working in January, don’t you think? Like I said, we’ve got to use Pepper while we can get him! It’s cool of him to do this because, you know, he’s got his set-up in New Orleans. He’s got a bar, and he’s got a little girl, so he doesn’t go out for that much touring, anyway, so for him to do COC and more Down stuff next year is awful cool of him.”

Asked if the reunited four-piece version of Corrosion of Conformity will debut any new material on their upcoming tour, “I don’t know how much new stuff we’ll play on the road. Nostalgia seekers are going to want to hear as much of ‘Deliverance’ and ‘Wiseblood’ and ‘Volume Dealer’ and ‘In the Arms of God’ as they can. So we’ll have four albums, pretty much, to go off of. And maybe later in the year, we’ll add a couple new songs. Hopefully by the end of the year, we’ll have an album out.”

Keenan, who was a member of the band from 1989 to their hiatus in 2006, last recorded with Corrosion of Conformity on their 2005 album In the Arms of God. The band has since recorded two albums without Keenan (2012’s Corrosion of Conformity and this year’s IX), which featured the Animosity-era lineup of Woody Weatherman (guitars), Mike Dean (bass, vocals) and Reed Mullin (drums).

Reed Mullin talks Corrosion of Conformity reunion with Pepper Keenan

Last September, we reported that Corrosion of Conformity were planning to reunite with its onetime guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan next year for a new album and tour. Asked in a recent interview about the reunion, and whether they have started writing new material, drummer Reed Mullin replied:

“Pepper and I were talking the other day, and we’ve got some riffs left over from that era that I never used for COC stuff, and he didn’t use for Down. They’ve just been sitting around from when we used to do demos at Jag Studios. He was like, “Man, I found a couple cassettes. Remember those cassettes we used to do with [John] Custer down at Jag?” So yeah, he found a cache of some good riffage in his house down there in New Orleans that I guess he had packed away.

And for some reason, I can remember a lot of the riffs those guys write. Like, there’s a song on the new COC album, the three-piece, and the music is music Pepper and I had jammed back in 1989, and I ended up just putting lyrics to it. Me, Woody and Mike recorded it. It’s called ‘Tarquinius Superbus,” after the last Roman king. For some reason, I remember a lot of the stuff they do, so I’m kind of like an encyclopedia of a lot of their riffs.”
