Guttermouth have their van robbed; GoFundMe page launched

Every time I start thinking to myself that “Hey! We haven’t had to write a story about a band getting their gear stolen in a while!” — we inevitably have to write a story about a band getting their gear stolen. It sucks each and every time we have to do it, whether the band is young or old or in-between. Last night, it happened to one of the scene’s longest running groups of road dogs: Guttermouth.

The incident happened last night in Houston, Texas, just four days into the band’s month-long tour (dates here) with The Queers, Atom Age, and Agent Orange. Windows in the band’s van got smashed, and the majority of the van’s contents subsequently got stolen from out behind the venue they were playing at. What got stolen? By the sounds of it…damn near everything: gear, computers, clothes, and basically everything they brought on the road. The band contemplated throwing in the towel on the tour, but has decided to forge ahead.

As a result of the night’s episode, a GoFundMe page has been started to help the band recoup some of their losses. Go to the page here, and maybe go to a show and buy some merch. Every little bit helps.

Guttermouth stream new single “Mail Order Bride”, announce new EP “New Car Smell”

California punks Guttermouth are streaming a brand new single called “Mail Order Bride.” The song is one off of a new upcoming EP titled, New Car Smell. In explaining the subject matter of the new track, singer Mark Adkins says:

This hymn of soon to be biblical proportion is not just some fabrication stemming from my frontal lobe. Life lessons and especially lessons of love- good or bad- come in many forms. For me the only constant is failure. Too many heartaches to count, thus pushing me to try a dating system and it’s as easy as the click of a mouse, swipe of the card and poof!!! The girl or man of your dreams arrives at your home or place of business via UPS (Customs permitting.) Mail Order Bride is not a gender-biased song. Just change the lyrics from girl to boy and you too can have and hold your very own spouse by mail. Ladies and gentlemen give this song a listen and your lonely self a chance. Good luck!

You can listen to the new tune below.

New Car Smell is scheduled for release on November 25th through a collaboration between Rude Records and Bird Attack Records.

Guttermouth guitarist explains decision to release new EPs

Guttermouth guitarist Geoff Davis was recently interviewed by Punktastic.com, where he talked about the band’s decision to put out two EPs instead of a full-length studio album. He states:

“To be honest, even with ‘Got It Made’, there really wasn’t pressure to put that out. What led to that happening is we were finally just in a place where we wanted to write a few songs and if we were happy how they came out, we would put it out. ‘Got It Made’ went well and we had a little bit of creative juice left, so we went to work on ‘New Car Smell’. Rude Records and Bird Attack Records did a collab on both releases and with their support, it happened.”

The Got It Made EP was released on July 15th via Bird Attack and Rude Records. New Car Smell will be released later this month (November 25th) on those two labels. Guttermouth’s recent full-length, Shave the Planet, was released in 2006 via Volcom Entertainment.
