Oi!!!! Here’s some facts, Jack:  2018 is (almost) over. I didn’t manage to shoot as many shows this year. I moved from my home in Los Angeles to the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. I got a new kitten. I bought a new car. I started a new job. Now, here’s some stats, Jill (I didn’t want anyone to feel left out):  Despite all of that, I still shot well over one hundred sets from about twenty-five different shows/festivals. Moral of the story:  I’m fucking tired.

2017 was an awfully busy year for me! I shot four festivals and an uncountable amount of local shows here in The City of Angeles. But for as frantic as it was there was also some pretty big payoffs. My year was filled with multiple life goals like getting to shoot Rancid, Bad Religion and Propagandhi all for the first time. And through it all, I got to meet tons of great folks, all of which deserve thanks in one way or another but would take too much time to acknowledge here. So, I’ll instead just say thanks to the incredible bands that allowed me to take their pictures while most likely being uncomfortably close to them! Keep up all of the great work and I can’t wait to see you all again in 2018! Check out my personal favorite shots from almost every set I shot this year, below!

Your favorite molotov cocktail waiter, AnarchoPunk here with my Album of the Year List for 2016! For those unfamiliar with my work, I write the monthly Hidden Gems of Bandcamp piece and manage the Exclusive Premieres and sometimes, you may even hear me on DS Radio doing band interviews. On last year’s AoTY list, I cheated a little bit and included EPs. I’ve held myself to a higher standard (yuck!) in 2016 and limited my selections to LPs only. With that being said, I did include a brief list of my favorite EPs because there were so many rad short albums too. Astute readers will notice a few big names like NOFX, Blink 182 and Descendents missing from my annual list. Good observational skills! With a ton of superb younger acts filling up the ranks, it wasn’t difficult finding bands to replace some of the bigger names who released slightly disappointing albums this year and it took me awhile to whittle it down to just ten records.

Thompson) stop on their #MaximumPartyTime never-ending tour across the globe, and DS Staff Writer AnarchoPunk who’s transcending from strictly a talented writer to a rogue punk beat reporter, despite his inability to adequately record his end of the podcast for this here episode. He did, however, manage to adequately interview PEARS (SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW) at Complex music venue in Glendale, California. Plus, new music by blink-182 , Guttermouth, Descendents, and The Misfits.

AnarchoPunk & AnarchoCat

DyingScene’s resident molotov cocktail waiter, AnarchoPunk here with my Top Ten Albums of the Year! Before subjecting you to my woefully myopic and biased opinions, I’ll give you the skinny on what I do around here. When not attempting to destroy the system from within, I write for the Original Content team. You may have read some of my inebriated ramblings in our monthly Hidden Gems of Bandcamp lists. From time to time, I also chip in with album and show reviews as well as the occasional band interview. All of these things I do, I do poorly. I’m a jack of all trades and master of jack shit but, I’m a warm body who can piece words together to form semi-coherent sentences so they keep me around. Now that we’re properly acquainted, onward and upwards! While there were a number of releases from more established bands this past year, we knew that there would be a bit of a lull due to the amount of stellar albums that were released in 2014. Lucky for me, my main job function here at the ‘Scene is uncovering newer, up and coming acts and lesser known bands, so the lack of output from the more seasoned, well known acts didn’t hinder my search at all! If you were one of those that thought there weren’t many great album released this past year, you just didn’t dig deep enough! Check out my Top Ten Countdown to the Best Album of 2015 below.

Beer/Music Fests are all the rage these days, but we’ve had a gaping hole in that department over the last year or so here in the US ever since punk legend Fat Mike and his trailblazing Punk in Drublic Fest was banished after making insensitive comments following the Las Vegas mass shooting. But things have blown over as they seem to do over time and the Festival has made it’s triumphant return to the States. We sent Anarchopunk down to snap some shots when the tour rolled through Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside of Denver and he didn’t disappoint (anyone other than his wife). Festival Season is starting to slow down as Winter approaches, but there’s still quite a few lingering around for the next few weeks before it goes completely silent! Scallywag Fest, although a newcomer to the arena, is one of the better festival! Not only do you get some incredible music like Mad Caddies, The Interrupters, Bad Religion and Rancid, you also get to enjoy a few hours of free craft beer tasting! Free beer and punk rock? sign us up! We sent senior staffer, Anarchopunk out the opening day  in his new hometown of Denver and he actually stayed sober enough to get some pretty rad shots! If you’re in the path of this one (check out the complete list of dates and stops here), we’d highly recommend getting your lazy ass off of the couch and going.
