It’s FEST lineup announcement day, boys and girls! This year’s installment takes place October 27 to 29th in Gainesville, and good grief it’s going to be a rager.
Taking the headline spots are Thursday, Descendents and Less Than Jake. The former will be playing two sets, including a War All The Time 20th anniversary full-album set. The latter will also be playing two sets, including a 25th-anniversary Hello Rockview performance. Also…Hello Rockview is turning 25 this year, so I’m going to go walk into ocean.

Hi babes! Don’t worry; I’ve missed you too. But how are you enjoying those summer flings you’ve picked up over the spring? Yeah, they are nice, huh? Well – for many, good things don’t last, and here’s what this post is about; break-up season.
It appears twice a year for those who haven’t heard of the so-called break-up season. The first season is during May/June – in time for those lovely festivals, and now winter is over, so many don’t feel like sitting on the couch doing nothing. And again in September/October because now summer has hit its final note, and many want the person they can snuggle up on the couch with.
And if you’re like me, wondering why it can’t be the same person? Apparently, for some, it’s with the mentality that a) the person you clung to in the cold winter and drank red wine with possibly can’t be a party animal as well. Wouldn’t that person not rather sit at home and watch the trilogy of Lord of The Rings than go feral during some bands they mentioned they liked but couldn’t like as much as me and my friends? b) they didn’t want to commit, and that sucks to hear. But sometimes it’s so simple. “Karina, you only mentioned those poor winter/autumn partners. Why don’t we stay with the partners we found during our summer?” – This is actually going to feel like a slap in your face. But here it goes; you know how you acted during the festivals, pool parties, beach BBQs, or whatever? Those dummies don’t want to take that home to their parents and likely found someone new on Tinder (or so I was told back in 2011 by the guy I was seeing). Fuck them either way. They suck. You don’t.
So what did I do to help the fallen ones get through this? I’ve made you a playlist of what I call the best songs to help you get through a breakup, and sorry, babes, I didn’t add any Taylor Swift! But I have a playlist with her on it if you want it. But first, let’s go through the top five of the playlist and talk about why it’s on.
KARINA’S TOP FIVE CHOICES TO MEND A BROKEN HEART
Fleeting love of what could have been? Don’t you ever wonder where a past crush ended up? So did Hot Mulligan! And therefore, they are number 1 on my list.
What’s a heartbreaking list without The Wonder Years? Last year they released an album that had parents in tears. But now they released a b-side of some album, which sums up everything I can relate to — broken trust and still longing for someone.
It’s Fall Out Boy. They made a career out of having their hearts broken and breaking teens’ hearts back in the ’00s. Hell, Patrick Stump broke mine. But this is mature, and it’s actually one of those that you catch yourself jamming to with friends at a BBQ — total sing-along.
Spanish Love Songs… They stole my heart and broke it when they canceled their concert in Copenhagen due to Covid. But this song, and I might add seeing them at Slam Dunk in May, i’s what takes the cake for me. They are my go-to.
These guys aren’t new but are finally gaining their deserved attention. If Graham from Sad Park sang this during a concert, I might actually be the one sobbing in the back. The whole album is great, but I love this song.
For more, I’ve added the full playlist below, and please, let’s add to it together and send it to our friends. Even Forever Unclean and Goodbye Blue Monday once again makes a deserved appearance.

Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago played host to T1 Fest 2023. The event was founded by Jimmy Costanzo and Joe “Joe Capgun” Inglima when Inglima’s son was diagnosed with T1 (Type 1 Diabetes) at age 3. Inglima’s daughter, at age 2, was also diagnosed with T1.
Along with music, the event also featured an auction. Chicago area bands made up the majority of the groups on the bill. Dying Scene was there for the first and final nights of the 3-day fest. The following is a photographic sampling of those bands.
Night 1: Thursday
Chicago Southsiders Flatfoot 56 capped off night 1 of the fest with a rowdy set per usual. And per usual, to the absolute delight of the crowd.
Take The Reins, one of a few of the bands at this event who shortly thereafter headed to Fest in Gainesville, FL, drove through an enjoyable set.
Space Age Zeros made its live debut earlier this year. This event introduced the group to an even larger audience. It was a blast, pun intended, description apt.
Sex Dream kicked off the fest with a rollicking set that had the crowd’s excited attention from the first note.
Night 3: Saturday
The Bollweevils is another band that performed at this year’s Fest. The band’s set at Reggie’s was a good time for those who could make it to Gainesville and those who could not do so. The band’s set here helped those unable to travel down south avoid FOMO on The Bollweevils.
Dan Schafer aka Dan Vapid has been busy this year with the resurrection of Sludegworth. This night included a welcome bit of nostalgia as Schafer led one of his earlier groups, The Riverdales, through a rousing set.
Capgun Heroes presented an intense, yet super fun set that echoed the feeling of the weekend overall. Lead singer Joe Capgun, also served as a terrific MC for the weekend. His passion for a cause so important to his own family shone through.
Please check out more images from Chicago area bands represented at T1 Fest. Thanks and Cheers!

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly* column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!
Check out the video edition of this week’s Record Radar, presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:
As I’m sure you’ve already heard, Green Day announced their new album Saviors earlier this week. Accompanying the release of the lead single “The American Dream is Killing Me” was a relentless onslaught of vinyl color variants. So far 18(!) variants have gone up for pre-order. A comprehensive list of color variants with links to pre-order can be found here.
Western Mass ska-punks PWRUP just released their new album Just Devils and it’s pretty fuckin bad ass. Ska Punk International is giving this hardcore infused ska-punk banger the wax treatment it deserves. Get your copy here and get it quick because they’re selling fast.
SS Decontrol’s The Kids Will Have Their Say is getting its first official repress since 1982 thanks to Trust Records. There are a bunch of variants, most of which sold out in less than an hour. Yellow vinyl & grey vinyl are still available here and those fucks at Newbury Comics haven’t sold through their exclusive orange color variant either because the fucking thing’s $38. Black wax will hit record store shelves November 17th.
Last week we gave you a head’s up that New Found Glory would be releasing 2004’s Catalyst on vinyl for the first time ever, with pre-orders launching on Friday. Well, it happened, and all of the band’s webstore variants were gone within an hour or so. The good news for anyone who wants this but missed out is there are still some retailer exclusive variants in stock, namely Mondo and Revelation Records. Don’t be surprised if NFG issues a 2nd pressing through their webstore either. This thing will be a money printer.
Here’s another thing we told you about on a past Record Radar: Less Than Jake‘s 25th Anniversary Hello Rockview reissue! The band had a tour exclusive splatter variant of this record at all their shows over the summer, and now a second variant has emerged. This half white / half silver color variant is limited to 300 copies and is only available at Smartpunk’s Fest 21 merch tent. I expect this 2xLP deluxe reissue ft. bonus tracks (including the never-before-heard “Honest Answers”!), demos & live recordings will be getting a broader release with online distribution soon, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Swedish skate punk veterans No Fun At All‘s debut album No Straight Angles is back in print once again, with a new pressing limited to 200 copies on transparent red and 300 copies on black vinyl. Our European readers can grab both colors from La Agonía de Vivir; North Americans can save on shipping and get the black wax from Thousand Islands Records.
AFI‘s Black Sails in the Sunset and The Art of Drowning seem to be back in print, as copies of both have started to pop up all over the place in the past week. No fancy colors or anything like that, just good ol’ black wax. Wally World is probably the cheapest place I’ve seen these.
Asian Man Records and Kill Rock Stars are co-releasing a Split LP from Teens in Trouble and Desert Mambas on November 17th. There are a bunch of color variants, links to where you can pre-order each can be found here. No songs streaming 🙁 Here’s an old Teens in Trouble song:
The first Record Radar of October featured this long awaited repress of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones‘ Let’s Face It. Unfortunately, it was sold out at the time, but I told you to have hope because more copies would likely pop up. Well, that’s exactly what happened. Apparently “limited edition” doesn’t mean what it used to. That’s good for you though! Go here and grab your copy before it sells out and they re-stock it again.
Speaking of the Bosstones, Dicky’s (somewhat controversial) new band The Defiant released their debut LP If We’re Really Being Honest this week. In addition to the embattled ex-Bosstones frontman, other members of the band include former Offspring drummer Pete Parada, Street Dogs bassist Johnny Rioux, Joey Briggs & original Smash Mouth guitarist Greg Camp. Check out a few tracks below and get the record on neon green colored vinyl here.
Well, that’s all, folks. Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, leave us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs (or do, I’m not your father). See ya next week!

So, let us begin. Thanks to England’s public transportation and their great job at CANCELLING trains, I missed The Meffs, and most of Get Dead, which I looked forward to but arrived at the end of the set. Oh well, another time – I hope. To be honest, Get Dead sounded so fucking good. I need more Get Dead in my life.
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii have to admit that I’ve never given this band the attention that they rightfully claimed Sunday the 28th in Hatfield. Now, for those that aren’t familiar with Comeback Kid, their sound is hardcore punk. But not the annoying kind; they actually know how to play instruments, and Andrew Neufeld knew how to grab the attention of fans when he decided to go down in the crowd and make noises. To be honest, I’m pretty sure a dude broke his leg during their set. And to be honest, I was enjoying the nice view of people going apeshit in the pit. Would I see them again? I mean, I actually would as long as it was outside, at a festival, with friends. Surprise! I’m now a Comeback Kid fan…but I’m never joining that fucking pit.
… I love Anti-Flag. That’s all, folks. I have nothing more to say about this. It’s Anti-Flag. And if I recall, I’m the only reviewer on this planet that actually gave Lies They Tell Our Childrena positive review. Okay, maybe not. But to be fair, I really liked that album and still do. But I’m about to ramble – here’s a fun little anecdote; Anti-Flag played in Copenhagen last year. I had bought tickets but forgot about the day; I did something else instead. I just remember the day after when I got a text asking where I was… I was actually very annoyed the whole day. But no more! Because I saw them, and it’s better than I expected (sorry A-F. Lol, as if you’ll read this)
Back in July, more preciously July 31st, I saw Lagwagon play in Copenhagen; honestly, that was trash. So, I’ll admit I was nervous about their performance… But they aced it. And now I’ll say THIS was my first time seeing Lagwagon because it was really good! And funny and sentimental… and the setlist was fucking awesome!
STORY TIME! Nearly seven years ago, on 15.06.2016 (very specific), NOFX played in Copenhagen. Yay, or… actually, not for me. Because I. Went. Into. Labor. And as a sensible 24-year-old, I decided that it would be a stupid idea to try and enjoy a concert while having contractions and maybe/maybe not having a baby in the middle of a NOFX concert. I mean, THAT could’ve been a fun story too. But…no.
So, finally, it was my turn to see NOFX. On this stop, they played So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes and White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean in full. Worth it, but sad at the same time. But honestly, it did actually feel like a final show. And that alone was bittersweet… But what a fucking party it was on a Sunday. I just want to see them again to compare the crowds because this was mind-blowing and fun. Everyone’s mood was high, and they ran the festival well without any large mistakes. There wasn’t even a queue to the bathrooms, bars, or food. Kudos. This was a HUGE success. Can we do it again, NOFX?

Bad Planning, The Reaganomics, Space Age Zeros, and Burn Rebuild all shared the small stage at Reggie’s Music Joint in Chicago. It was a solid night of spirited performances by bands staffed with veteran musicians.
Bad Planning, a pop-punk/melodic hardcore band founded in a couple of Chicago suburbs but now based in Chicago itself, headlined the more intimate stage at Reggie’s. Whatever planning Alex Crook, Jack Coombs, Kevin Levonyak, and Laurence Bactat, may have put into this show, it was anything but bad. They tore through their set which included, “Full Stomach” “Actors,” “Dead Ends and Amends,” “Midwest Classic,” and “A Year Without Sleep.” The set also featured, at the very start, “FMN,” and “Sad Truth,” both of which are 2024 newly released singles. It was an exhilarating performance.
Up next, per Alex Crook, is a short East Coast tour this spring. One of those stops will be in Queens, NY for the Music Fests Here II. Bad Planning, off of Jump Start Records, will be sharing the bill with, among many others, Warn the Duke, which includes one of Dying Scene’s occasional contributors, Dan McCool.
The Reaganomics, from Joliet, IL, has recently made a few appearances on this site, for good reason. The band – made up of Terry Morrow, Greg Alltop, Nick McLenighan, and Eddie Cantu – continues to deliver entertaining performances since its start a decade and a half ago. This night was no exception. The driving set was drawn from across the band’s discography, and included, “Directive Five (Robocop’s Always Down),” “Don’t Worry, We’ll Play First,” “Grown Ass Man,” “Four Cliches,” “Dear Jaymez,” and “Smug Punx,” among others.
Terry Morrow told me they are writing new music now. I’d hazard a guess there will be more opportunities for you to catch The Reaganomics in the not-too-distant future. Do yourself a favor and make sure you are near the front of the stage when that future becomes the present.
Chicago’s own Space Age Zeros may be on their way to being local pop-punk heroes. The band members, who go by Nathan Zero, Tommy Zero, Steev Zero, Jason Zero, and Brian Zero, made their first live appearances in late 2022 and had a busy 2023. Presently, it is finishing up the recording of its debut album with producer Dan “Dan Precision” Wleklinski at The Bombshelter.
The band’s name was inspired by a carnival kiddie ride known as Space Age Umbrellas, according to Jason Zero. However, he told me,
“We changed it to “Zeros” to sound more punk rock.”
Jason Zero also told me he came up with something else. Short sleeve button-down shirts adorned with the group’s logo, a lightning bolt.
“I had come up with the idea for the matching shirts. All were on board aside from Nathan who does his own thing. But being a frontman I think that works well.“
On this night, Space Age Zeros blasted through a strong set, including, “Merry Go Round,” “Smile,” ” “Wishing Well,” and “On A Date With Suzi Moon.”
You can next check out Space Age Zeros at Beat Kitchen, on February 25, 2024. The band will share the stage with The Winks, and Zoanoids.
Burn Rebuild, from the southside of Chicago, is, in 2024, celebrating its 20th anniversary as a band. It also laid the foundation for this show with a combustible performance. Band members, Frank Tsoukalas, Brian Hampson, Andy Paik, and Kyle Prillaman, ripped through a set, which included “Save The Date,” “Monsters,” “Skin and Blood,” “Ignite,” and “A Decade of Hating Yourself Gets Old.”
Frank Tsoukalas, also of Much the Same [he mentioned he does not like to use the MTS card when it comes to his other projects], told me how Burn Rebuild got its name,
“The name came from Brian and I revamping our lives, attending UIC in our mid-thirties. Both of us were in this creative purgatory while trying to navigate what people have been asking since B.C. times, “What am I doing with my life.” The line, burn and rebuild, worked its way into the first song we wrote and seemed to fit where we were and what we were doing artistically and with our lives.“
Tsoukalas also updated me on what the band is doing now,
“Currently, we are writing and have a few ideas sketched out we’re excited about. We’d like to release new music ASAP. No shows right now; we’ve emailed the Chicago venues a bunch so if you read this, we want to play your place.”
With regards to this show, Tsoukalas described it this way,
“The Music Joint show was so fun and in 20 plus years of playing punk shows, Reggie’s is my favorite place in the city to play and has always been good to us. Bad Planning is a great upcoming band, I’ve known most of The Reaganomics for over a decade, and how fun are they to watch play? This was also my second time playing with Space Age Zeroes who couldn’t be nicer. It was an honor to open the night up with a nice group of people, and thanks to Chris [Tracy] with 630 Productions for calling us in. Being our first show back since the shutdown, it felt really good to be back on stage.“
Please check out more photos from the show! Thanks & Cheers!

Dying Scene is pleased to partner with Outerspace Entertainment to bring you the 3rd Annual Punktoberfest taking place on October 15th at the incredible Felton Music Hall in Felton, California!
Despite the name, this multi-genre, single day, DIY fest features artists from a few different musical categories but it leans heavily towards pop punk and emo with acts like The Seafloor Cinema, Bare Knuckle, Goldview and Summon the Hero playing along side some more “punk adjacent” NorCal bands like rockers The Trims. Toss in some well needed hip-hop from solo artists POMI and Lil Lotus (who just released his debut full length via Epitaph Records) and you got yourself a well rounded, fantastically fun fest! Snag your tickets here. See you in the pit, comrades!
You can get tickets right here! T1 Fest is back! As you may know, T1 Fest is the charitable festival that brings awareness to and critical funding for Type 1 Diabetes, a condition that affects 2 million Americans including 304,000 children. Well, this year's lineup is packed across three days. Bands playing include Sludgeworth, Guttermouth, Diesel Boy, The Jasons, Kepi Ghoulie (playing full electric, baby!), The Bollweevils, Zoanoids, Take The Reins, Parasites, Capgun Heroes, Whatever…, Violets, Space Age Zeros, The Iron Spiders, Sex Dream, and more. The event is at Reggie's Rock Club in Chi-Town October 10, 11, and 12. You can GET TICKETS RIGHT HERE!!! Oh, also, you can read an interview with Friday night Headliners the Jasons below. We spoke to the frontman… Jason…
T1 Fest is October 8,9, and 10 at Reggie's in Chicago. Bollweevils are one of the headliners, making the gig their second time at the fest. They also just released an album last year. So, Punknews' John Gentile spoke to singer Daryl Wilson about the fest, the band's new LP, and even a little bit about the fact that he is a ER Doctor! Read the article below.
