Happy Friday, friends! There’s a lot of awesome new releases out today, but I’ve made the executive decision to shine the spotlight – the Dying Scene Band Spotlight, that is 😉 – on one record in particular. That record is Hurry Up and Wait! This is the third full-length entry in Canadian pop-punk band Wasting Time‘s growing discography.
Here’s what the band had to say about their brand new record, which just came out today on People of Punk Rock Records:
“Hurry Up And Wait is a melodic journey encapsulating many moments throughout our lives with reflective, ambiguous and occasional dark lyrics. These 11 songs reflect a modern spin on our favourite pop-punk bands from the 90s while also displaying an expansion of our sonic palette as a band. We’re happy to have it released today and hope listeners can take in how much fun we had writing, arranging and recording these songs.”
If you are a fan of MxPx, The Ataris, No Use For A Name, etc. you’ll like these guys for sure. But hey, don’t take my word for it, check out the record! You can listen to right below, or on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music (do people use that shit?), etc. by clicking this link. And my fellow physical media appreciators can get the album blue colored vinyl and/or compact disc right here.
Also! And this is the last thing, I promise. If you happen to reside in the Greater Toronto Area, consider attending Wasting Time’s album release show tomorrow, April 13th at the Bovine Sex Club. More details here!
This Dying Scene Featured Release™ / Band Spotlight© is brought to you in part by our friends at Punk Rock Radar®. To stay up to date on all the awesome new punk records coming out every week, look no further than PRR’s Release Calendar and New Music Friday Spotify Playlist!

DS Band Spotlight: Houseghost continues making waves with sophomore album “Another Realm”
Dayton, Ohio’s Houseghost made waves in 2020 when Rad Girlfriend Records released their self-titled debut LP at the height of the pandemic. On their new album Another Realm, the band fronted by the brother-sister duo of Nick and Kayla Hamby delivers more lo-fi pop-punk with thematic horror punk lyrics. They call it “spooky punk”, and I think that’s a fitting description.
The whole record is great (it probably would have been on my “Best of 2022” list if I hadn’t already made it lol). If I had to choose a few standout songs, I’d go with “Heart Up”, “Pretty Red”, “Nameless”, and the Lillingtons-esque “Night in the Woods”.
If these guys aren’t already on your radar, I highly recommend giving Another Realm a listen below. And if you’d like to support Houseghost, you can do so by grabbing a digital copy of the album here (I’d recommend picking it up on vinyl, but it’s sold out!).

DS Band Spotlight: Introducing international punk rock duo When The Walls Fell
When The Walls Fell is a transatlantic punk band that blends in-your-face street punk with upbeat, melodic pop-punk and ripping guitar leads. And while that may sound like it shouldn’t work, it most certainly does. The project is the brainchild of two primary members; Queens, New York’s Jim Rundle records guitar, bass, and drums while […]

The project is the brainchild of two primary members; Queens, New York’s Jim Rundle records guitar, bass, and drums while Poole, England’s Ross Sutcliffe takes the lead on vocals.
My friends at Punk Rock Radar recently turned me on to these guys and their killer new album Build Back Better. Listen for yourself below and head over to Bandcamp and kick a few bucks their way for the digital download. Don’t forget to tell ’em your friends at Dying Scene sent ya!

DS Band Spotlight: UK punks Bear Away make their debut with “A Drastic Tale Of Western Living”
A few days ago, I presented our Facebook followers with a simple task: Recommend some awesome bands to be featured on the next entry in Dying Scene’s Ten Underrated Bands You Should Be Listening To column. A few days ago, I presented our Facebook followers with a simple task: Recommend some awesome bands to be featured on the next entry in Dying Scene’s Ten Underrated Bands You Should Be Listening To column. You guys came through big time, and now I have something like 200 fucking bands to sift through! What have I gotten myself into?! 🥴
Anyway, one of the bands that immediately grabbed my attention was Bear Away. Recommended by a reader named Kevin from Las Vegas, these guys have totally flown under my radar for the entirety of the three years they’ve been around. I took Kevin’s advice and checked out their brand new album A Drastic Tale of Western Living and I really liked what I heard! Don’t just take my word for it, listen for yourself below.
Haling from Scarborough, UK, the four piece Bear Away has a kinda fuzzy, melodic sound with a bit of a Midwest punk feel. A Drastic Tale… is a very solid debut effort that will serve as a great introduction to new listeners (like me!). No matter what corner of the world you’re in, you can probably grab a copy of this record. Brassneck and Engineer Records released it in the UK, with the following labels handling international distribution: Sell the Heart Records in North America, Shield Recordings in Europe, and Waterslide Records in Japan. So if you like what you hear, hit up one of those awesome labels! And tell ’em your friends at Dying Scene sent ya 😉

Australia has long been a breeding ground for excellent melodic punk and Adelaide’s LOLA are one of the latest in a long line of succession. If you’ve never heard of these guys before, their brand new single “Fast Life” (not to be confused with this bad ass bonus track from the undisputed greatest Bad Religion record The New America) is a good starting point.

Australian melodic punk band All Hope Remains are gearing up to release their new record Finding My Way; it’s due out September 20th on Pee Records (AUS), Double Helix Records (US), and Disconnect Disconnect Records (UK). We’re fanning the flames with this exclusive premiere of the music video for their brand new single “Standing By”. Check it out below!
“Standing By” is a song that nearly never happened and yet it inspired its own existence. A piece of music buried away, and overlooked for years. Eventually a phrase landed which inspired review, rearrangement and eventual completion with the chorus proclaiming itself as (the) “best kept secret, hidden away from the world.” Ironically enough, the track finds itself as a feature single on the forthcoming album and we couldn’t be happier with it.” -All Hope Remains frontman Mark Gilmore
Go here to pre-save “Standing By” on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. and keep your eyes glued to the labels’ webstores for Finding My Way colored vinyl pre-orders coming very soon.

Phoenix, Arizona five piece Bite the Hand‘s sound blends elements of their hardcore, punk, emo, and grunge influences. The band just signed on with Wiretap Records for the release of their debut album Conned Out of Life, which is due out later this summer. We’re stoked to bring you the exclusive premiere of the new single “Smile Baby”; check out the music video below!
Here is a heartfelt message from the band, offering some background on the poignant lyrical content of this new track:
“Being worked to the bone in late stage capitalism. We’re forced to walk around with a smile on our face whether we’re grieving or going through rough patches in our lives. It’s hard to be just another number on a spreadsheet. We aren’t always “allowed” to show those feelings or emotions without fear of consequence so this song is your permission slip that you don’t just have to smile through the bullshit. Let yourself feel what you gotta feel”.
