Mess of Everything was produced by Luke McNeill of The Copyrights, who also plays with Local Drags frontman Lanny Durbin in Starter Jackets. The new album gives the power pop style of the band’s first two albums a darker sheen, with more layered guitars and looser instrumentation. Still, the songs are as melodic as ever and stay true to their pop sensibilities.

Local Drags is back with a new album called City in a Room, due to be out May 17th on Stardumb Records. We’re stoked to be premiering the music video for the album’s leadoff single “Left in the Sun’”, another catchy power pop nugget, something people who followed Lanny Durbin’s in both this band as well as Starter Jackets have come to expect from him. Check the video out below and pre-order the record here!

After dipping into alt country accents with its predecessor Mess of Everything, Local Drags makes an even sharper left turn with their fourth LP City in a Room. Lanny Durbin’s songwriting is still razor-edged and to the point, with a mix of darker indie rock vibes sinking into the instrumentation. Melody and optimism still make their way to the top. Fighting depression with power pop!

This premiere is brought to you in part by Punk Rock Radar. If you’d like your band’s music video to be premiered by Dying Scene and Punk Rock Radar, go here and follow these instructions. You’ll be on your way to previously unimagined levels of fame and fortune in no time!

Local Drags – “Mess of Everything”

Mess of Everything - Local Drags

Release Date: March 17, 2023 Record Label: Stardumb Records Release Type: Album

Local Drags is back with a new album Mess of Everything, due out March 17th on Stardumb Records. Hailing from Springfield, Illinois, these days the band is pretty much Lanny Durbin along with whichever friends are around at the time. Some might know Lanny from his other band Starter Jackets, also featuring Luke McNeill of The Copyrights, who handled production duties on Mess Of Everything.

With this third album, the power pop style of Local Drags’ previous releases has been twisted and cracked into something else with more layered guitars and looser instrumentation. Pulling a little from wider influences such as Summerteeth-era Wilco, as well as Tom Petty, the music finds the band at a different angle. The sharp songwriting has a darker sheen this time around, yet still allows optimism to lead the way. Fans of the first two albums don’t have to worry though: With each song clocking in well under the 3 minute mark, you know the band didn’t lose anything of its straight to the point pop qualities.

Pre-order Mess of Everything on vinyl or CD here (US), here (EU), or here (Australia).
