DS/Blaqart Radio Exclusive: Fat Mike is doing his own musical. No, Seriously.

In an epic interview done last night on PunkRadioCast‘s Blaqart Radio, NOFX front-man, Fat Mike, discusses his plans to one-up Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong with a musical of his own.  And he’s dead serious.

The whole interview starts off with Fat Mike telling a story about how he met the writers/cast of the Broadway musical “Avenue Q” at an after party in Los Angeles, and how amazing that was for him as he’s such a huge fan of musicals in general.  That prompts the show’s host to ask Mike, “What do you think it would be like if you could you write musicals?” Mike responds:

“Well you’re going have to wait until next year to find out, won’t you?… I’ve been working on something for a couple years now.  It has actually been taking all of my energy, which is one of the reasons I wanted to go to this after party and meet these guys. I’ve got to meet the right people.”

When asked to describe what fans can expect from the subject matter and the music itself (would it be all punk songs?), Mike explains:

“Well the thing I’m working on, it’s more dramatic than anything… Maybe a punk rock… well that’s the thing, it’s not that punk rock either. It’s got some punk songs in it, but it’s maybe like Hair mixed with “Hedwig.” Most of the stuff is typical stuff. You know; piano, classical instruments and real singers.”

The conversation spun off from here in 90 different directions, but all in all, the whole interview was pure gold.  It was such a good interview, in fact, that it couldn’t possibly be allowed to stream anywhere, so if you missed it, you’ll just have to take our word for it.
