Bent Left Bio:
Bent Left started playing shows in March of 2003 while living in Rolla, MO. In the fall of 2004 the band relocated to Kansas City, MO after their first west coast tour the previous summer. The remaining months of 2004 and early 2005 were spent writing and recording ʻSkeletons In Your Closetʼ which came out in April of 2005. The band supported that release with a 9 week nationwide tour that summer and an east coast tour over the winter of 2005/2006. In March of 2006 Bent Left made their first international trip playing 10 shows around Tokyo before returning home and writing ʻPremeditated Insanityʼ. That record was released in early 2007 after a 4 week east coast tour with Outlaw. The rest of 2007 was spent writing, practicing, and traveling to the west coast once more.
In January of 2008 the band left town on an 8 month nationwide tour. 3 months in, the vegetable oil tour van had had enough, so the band jumped an Amtrak to Santa Cruz and made their way up the west coast with a borrowed car, bumming gear from local bands. Back in Kansas City in June of 2008 Bent Left set-up shop at Club Mustache and began hosting basement shows for friends from the road. The band was on a 7 day a week practice schedule for the rest of 2008.
After regrouping from the financial burden of their broken van and 40 cancelled shows Bent Left started work on some new recordings and getting themselves road ready once more. The band made itʼs first trip to Fest in Gainesville, FL in October of 2009 supporting their newest EP, ʻUSS Awesomeʼ. It was at Fest that the band met up with I Hate Punk Rock Records who would eventually release their first vinyl, a split with themselves, titled ʻUSS Awesome/Let Me Be Your Jesusʼ. The band traveled to the Harvest of Hope Fest in spring of 2010 and back to Fest in October of 2010. They are currently confirmed to play Fest 10 in October of 2011 and will be spending a month on each coast through the fall. The band is touring in support of itʼs most recent release, ʻBrutal Like a Puppy Dogʼ, which is available on 10” vinyl.
The members of Bent Left also run Recycled Rockstar, Ind. and publish ʻAn Insiderʼs Guide to Midtown Mayhemʼ. Recycled Rockstar has released 4 compilations in the ʻFountains of Follyʼ series since Fall of 2009 which feature Kansas City and midwestern bands from a wide array of genres. They also host an annual community oriented festival in Kansas City called ʻThe Spring Invitationalʼ where bands from around the country come to perform. The members of Bent Left have a 1,200 sq. ft. community vegetable garden at their home and regularly work to empower Kansas Cityʼs youth through positive reinforcement by providing active and creative outlets in the neighborhood.
