DOAKS is a surf punk duo from Cleveland, OH formed in January of 2018 shortly after singers Jeremy Van Dress & Chelsea Amata "swiped right" on each other using the dating app, Tinder. They quickly began writing songs and recording in their basement doing it completely DIY, figuring things out as they went.
Their first album, "Scaredy Ghost," (released on their label Max Kitty) started building a buzz with it's unique blend of danceable indie jams, punk energy and dual male/female vocals. "We're kinda like a punk rock B-52's," laughs Van Dress.
The song, "Because I Said So," gained the attention of college radio which further gained the attention of Alternative Press magazine as DOAKS was featured in a Bands to Know article, all without ever having played a live show. AP writer, Annie Zaleski, stated that their debut record "veers between punkish rave-ups, candy-coated power pop and retro-fabulous synth rock."
With the urge to get out of the basement and perform live, they added bassist/vocalist Scott Richmond and drummer Jay Baskette, who met while playing in the band Trendy.
DOAKS has now played a half dozen shows at reputable Cleveland area venues such as the legendary Grog Shop, Mahall's & the Foundry.
