I Believe in Giants is an easy-core pop punk band out of South Africa established in 2017 by veterans of the South African music scene who collectively (in previous groups) have opened for great acts such as Billy Talent, Underoath, Comeback Kid, Haste The Day, The
Ghost Inside and The Ataris, as well as played every major South African music festival we can think of. It’s the kind of experience that shines brightly in the band’s in-studio precision on the recording of “Rise and Fall”, a song that made it’s debut on their summer of 2018 EP, Sink or Swim, and is currently available on all the usual streaming services.
Today I Believe In Giants is premiering that track in nostalgic cinematic glory. Stream the video for “Rise and Fall” below.
Directed by lead singer Jéan Lombard, he has this to say about the new video: “Nostalgia is a big part of who we are and inspires what we do – we reflect this in different aspects from our live shows to our merch. Rise & Fall is our favourite track to play and is probably the best representation of us, so we wanted to incorporate some of our other favourite things growing up. Therefore, setting up the location like band practice in a bedroom, going back to where we all started, and just wanting to make a fun video by incorporating everything from Action Figures to TV shows/Movies and TV Games etc. – Ninja Turtles, He-Man, WWE, Mortal Kombat, Rambo, Hardy Boys and more. You also get to see a bit more of each band member’s personality and what we enjoy besides playing music.”
No joke this room is the nine year old in me’s dream come true. If you were growing up in the 90’s odds are you had at least half of this memorabilia circled in Grandma’s Sear’s Christmas catalog.
“The main theme behind Rise & Fall is a question of the importance of reaching your goals and dreams, doing what you love. Are you going to
give it your all, or just give up…sink or swim? The song is a statement, saying that we’re not ready to give up on ours. We are here, this is who we are and we’re giving it our all.”
Looking for some up-lifting positivity and motivation like only the best pop-punk can provide? What better than paired with a casual and cozy stroll down memory lane?
“Time to sink or swim, I’ll find my feet back on solid ground. Your sinking ships wont drag me down. I’ll keep holding on ’till I find where I belong. I wont let this go. Not just yet, no I wont let this go.”
