Well, another year is drawing to a close. People are gearing up for the holidays and it’s almost time to start creating our New Year’s resolution lists. But before we begin looking to the future, let’s employ a different kind of list to help us appreciate the past. You know what I’m talking about. Yep, a Top Ten list! Each day I’m going to publish a different person’s Top 10 albums of 2010 list for you to praise, completely disagree with, or just outright ignore.
Today’s list comes from Dying Scene album reviewer Taron Cochrane and you can check out his picks for the 10 Best Albums of 2010 right here.
1. Off With Their Heads – “In Desolation”
.
.
.
I checked out this release on a recommendation from DS co-music lover, Lauren Mills. Completely floored! Tight sound and (although they are slightly manically depressive) some unbelievable lyrics. I see why Epitaph signed these guys, a very wise decision indeed.
.
2. Flatfoot 56 – “Black Thorn”
.
.
.
My heart (and heritage) holds a soft spot for any music that has a celtic vibe. Already being a fan of this band, this mandolin-heavy release sat in my stereo for months on end. Interviewing the band (for Punkradiocast show, The Grind) showed me how down to earth these guys are. The kindness factor, along with their fist-shaking live set sold me…pure gold.
.
3. Authority Zero – “Stories of Survival”
.
.
.
Another AZ album that features a unique blend of punk, ska & reggae. What I expected out of this album I got and that, my friends, made me a very happy guy. The first single, “Get It Right” is front to back a stand-out song that is catchy as hell.
.
4. The Dreadnoughts – “Polka Never Dies”
.
.
.
Polka and punk rock, two of life’s little miracles. Listen to this album and tell me it isn’t good! Deep down it makes me kind of wish I was a cider-swillin’ pirate setting sail on the sea of debauchery.
.
5. Against Me! – “White Crosses”
.
.
.
For fear of backlash and anger from the punk community, I have no comments on this album…haha. A friend-of-a-friend said it was really good…yeah that’s it. 😛
.
6. Bad Religion – “The Dissent of Man”
.
.
.
I don’t think I really need to explain why Bad Religion and their latest album is on this list. If you want to know exactly how I feel about this album, go read Tommy’s dead-on review.
.
7. Street Dogs – “Street Dogs”
.
.
.
Heartfelt, true to their word and dedicated. Just a few short words to describe this band. Their new self-titled album features a much more diverse musical sound and their delivery is as strong as ever. Simply put if you want an enjoyable listening experience, buy this album. Trust me.
.
8. Chelsea Arms – 3 Song EP.
Well, not necessarily a proper release just yet…but the 3-songs I have heard have been ‘list worthy’. A solo project by Kris Idol of Time Again/Trashed Idols fame. Worth your time…hunt them down online.
.
9. Joey Briggs – “Fear, Politics & Self Loathing”
.
.
.
It’s Joey Briggs….from The Briggs….obviously it’s gonna be good!
.
10. Good Riddance – “Capricorn One”
.
.
.
Some unreleased and unheard tracks (along with some well-know hits) from one of the best punk bands of my teenage years. Long live Good Riddance!
