Every Friday the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene are going to unleash a little bit of punk scene trivia all over your asses. Today’s “fun factoid” is about everybody’s favorite Canadian, political punk band Propagandhi .
Punk rock and politics go hand-in-hand and no other band embodies that trait more than Propagandhi does. Vocalist Chris Hannah and drummer Jord Samolesky co-founded the record label G7 Welcoming Committee Records, a label that, according to the G7 website: “Politically radical bands and speakers could unflinchingly support and call home; where the driving force behind the label’s output was social change and radical thought; and where the structure of the organization didn’t contradict itself by mimicking the structures of unbalanced power and hierarchy in the profit-driven corporate world.” Oh hi, i’m looking at you Propagandhi! The label’s co-operative economic structure is based upon the concept of Participatory Economics, or “Parecon”, and was initially started thanks to a $50,000 loan from Fat Mike.
