10 Punk/Ska Songs That Will Improve the Quality of Your Life (curated by Dying Scene editor Screeching Bottlerocket)

Though I may not be nearly as important as Dying Scene founder David Samuel Buckmaster, I am still pretty important.  Okay, I’m probably not but that’s beside the point!

You clicked on this post because you wanted to listen to some fine compositions of the punk rock and ska-punk variety recommended by one of Dying Scene’s prestigious editors, correct?  Well, you can do so below.

1. Rancid – “Collision Course”

My favorite of the three songs Rancid recently released a music video for. It’s so, so, so good, and it’ll be appearing their long-awaited new album Honor Is All We Know, which is due out October 27th on Hellcat and Epitaph Records.

2. Jetty Boys – “Wasted In The Basement”

Every song on this record’s really great.  It was one of my top 10 favorite albums of 2014 if that says anything.  Head over to Jetty Boys’ Bandcamp page to hear the rest and pick up a copy of the vinyl from the Eccentric Pop webstore.

3. Frenzal Rhomb – “Racist”

I’ve also been listening to a lot of Frenzal Rhomb lately…mostly Meet The Family.  I’d say it’s one of my favorite Frenzal records.

4. Blowfuse – “Man Of Opportunities”

These guys are phenomenal, and so is their latest album Into The Spiral.  The first time I showed my uncle the music video for their song “Ripping Out,” he was convinced it was something that had been recorded in the 90’s. Check it out for yourself and you’ll see why.

5. The Real Danger – “Anything”

These guys are great, as is the entire album this song appears on.  If you like fast, melodic punk rock, do yourself a favor and check it out on their Bandcamp page.

6. Bruce Lee Band – “Do The Politicians”

I’m currently waiting on my copy of the new Bruce Lee Band record to come in the mail, and you know what? I can’t wait anymore!!  Head over to Asian Man’s webstore and pick up your own copy so you can wait for USPS to take forever to deliver it.

7. The Murderburgers – “Unemployment, Here I Come”

The reissue of The Murderburgers’ phenomenal 2012 album How To Ruin Your Life is another release I’m waiting on from Asian Man.  The digital version’s out already, but nothing’s been said about the vinyl release for some time.  Guess I’ve gotta wait!

8. Strung Out – “Monster”

One of my all-time favorite Strung Out tracks.  The remixed/remastered versions of Another Day In Paradise, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, and Twisted By Design they released earlier this year sound phenomenal.  Which reminds me, I’ve still gotta pick up a copy of the box set!

9. The Vandals – “Euro-Barge”

I am the ambassador of fuckin’ kick your assador!

10. Victims Of Circumstance – “Sound And Fury”

Any self-respecting ska-punk fan should know who Victims Of Circumstance is.  For those who aren’t in the know, VOC’s an awesome ska-punk band from my hometown Clearwater, Florida.  If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend heading over here and checking out their new record No More Heroes and picking up a copy from their webstore – it’s probably my favorite album of theirs.
