Arturo Vega, Ramones art director and logo creator, dies at 65.

Yesterday, Punk author and historian Legs McNeil announced the death of his friend Arturo Vega, an iconic player in the story of the rise of the Ramones.

Vega had served as the “artistic director, guardian and very close friend” for the band, and perhaps most famously crafted their iconic presidential seal logo, which first appeared on the band’s 1976 self titled debut. Bassist and singer Dee Dee and Joey Ramone were close friends with Vega, who shared his apartment with the two (and many others) in the band’s early years. Vega claimed to have been at all but two of their 2,263 concerts.

Vega passed away yesterday morning. He was 65.
