Irreverend James does gospel version of Bad Religion’s “American Jesus”

This is fantastic.  Irreverent James and the Critical Mass Choir have done a gospel version of the epic Bad Religion anthem, “American Jesus” and you can listen to it below.

Regarding the choice to cover the song, Irreverent James writes:

If you know us, you know that we normally slap punk lyrics onto old-school gospel music. So naturally, we started wondering what a punk anthem might sound like if it were done gospel. And what better song to cover than American Jesus? It lays out a message that deserves to be belted. So we did. Then two weeks ago, while recording our upcoming EP, we found out BAD RELIGION would be performing at NXNE (as are we). Although this wasn’t part of the plan, we knew that we couldn’t not track this song. So we did.

We’d love nothing more than for this to make it to the band’s ears. They were on the front line before it was fashionable. They are giants.

Without further ado, our homage to Bad Religion’s American Jesus. Turn up the volume. If you like the original version, you’re gonna love the finale.
