Here’s a few fresh cuts from South Coast, UK skate-punk band, Captain Trips. Their latest release, Stand By, comes out on Umlaut Records on the 5th and they’ve graciously allowed DS the exclusive premiere a few days early. Here’s what it is: dope lyrics, super cool bass lines, dual-guitar harmonies, chants, and a mix of heavier metal influences with those most exquisite fine-tunings that make solid punk music punk music, all packaged fresh with the seal of a post-apocalyptic kiss and what one can only assume is the UK skate-punk-scene absolutely exploding around them.
“Come down the rabbit hole with [Captain Trips]… and burn that fucker right into the ground!” they say in their Siren Song as the world burns in the constant fast-paced drumming of Andi Farrar with the underlying leads of dual guitarists, Rich and Phil, bouncing off each other arioso, and bassist Lee Warren compounding a few leads of his own.
Captain Trips is a fast melodic skate-punk band, for fans of The Offspring, No Use For a Name and Pears. From “Bottom of the River” where the band calls you in with lines like, “You are all my brothers to me,” and bleed you dry, “who we were at the bottom, we found the strength to cut the head off the snake,” to the reason of “The Voice”, “You’re the voice. Try to understand it. Make a noise and make it clear,” and unfettered rage of “Siren Song” which breaks down in a cacophony of emotion, “for love not hurt there has to be some sense left in fucking humanity!” This music is cutthroat, like a tiny pebble under the wheel of your skateboard. Aimed at “the enemies of human progress,” and the “tired anthems” of the old ways, but made assuredly for you, young skate-punk-loving-zombie-scene-heads. Captain Trip’s self-titled EP was released in April, 2016.
