In 2008, the mysterious Streetlight Manifesto-related RISC Group launched the Pentimento Music Company, followed closely by a debut release from The Stitch Up (fronted by former MU330 singer/guitarist Dan Potthast). The next two years or so seemed pretty uneventful for the label, but the last 18 months have seen some pretty exciting advances.
This year new bands from all over the genre spectrum have signed and are releasing material. Labelmates Streetlight Manifesto, Lionize, and Rodeo Ruby Love have toured multiple times together (and are currently on tour with Reel Big Fish), and a nice sampler of all signed bands was released this summer.
The group’s latest release is an all-Streetlight acoustic covers album by their singer Toh Kay. For a Dying Scene Review of that album, click here. They plan to release “Superczar” by Lionize on December 6th.
Don’t forget to head to their website for free downloads from Lionize, Rodeo Ruby Love, Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution, Sycamore Smith, and Dan Potthast. From folk to funk and ska to alternative, Pentimento Music Company has quickly made itself a budding independent label to keep your eye on in the near future.
