Nat and Rob Rufus (Blacklist Royals) – 10 best albums of 2010

Well, another year is drawing to a close. People are gearing up for the holidays and it’s  almost time for us to start creating our New Year’s resolution lists. But before we begin looking to the future, let’s employ a different kind of list to help us appreciate the past. You know what I’m talking about. Yep, a Top Ten list!  Each day for the next couple weeks I’m going to publish a different Top 10 albums of 2010 list for you to praise, completely disagree with, or just outright ignore.

Today’s list come from brothers, Nat and Rob Rufus, of the Blacklist Royals. Check out their picks for the 10 Best Albums of 2010 right here.

Here are the records me and Nat could come up with that we dug this year!!

10.  Against Me! – “White Crosses”

Although a lot of people hated AM! last ditch major label record, there are a lot of really good fucking songs on it.  Especially “Spanish Moss” and “Rapid Decompression.”

.

9. The Sainte Catharines – “Fire Works”

Awesome punk rock record!

.

.

.

.

8.  Sage Francis – ‘Li(f)e”

The lyrics and production are incredible, and Nat listens to this shit constantly on the road.

7.  Ryan Bingham  – “Junky Star”

Even though this isn’t as good as his previous two releases, I attribute that to it being a rushed release after he won an Oscar.  Ryan Bingham is one of the greatest songwriters to emerge in a long long time, and songs like “The Weary Kind” make that obvious.  If you dig that make sure to check out Mescalito (which Rob did marketing on while working at Lost Highway Records) and Roadhouse Sun.

.

.

6.  The Riot Before – “Rebellion”

Another killer record from a killer band, one of the best bands we’re ever toured with.  And as an effort to make sure they keep every secret from the road I will put them on every “best of” list from now until the end of time haha.

.

.

.

5.  The Snips – “Blackouts”

One of the best bands around!

.

.

.

.

4.  Bruce Springsteen – “The Promise (Box Set)”

Darkness on the Edge of Town is both of our favorite Springsteen record, so we have been waiting a long time for this box set!  Some cool unreleased tracks, and even cooler DVDs make this shit a must have.

.

.

.

3.  The Rolling Stones – “Exile on Main St. (Deluxe Edition)”

One of the greatest rock and roll records of all time just got better with this re-release, with an alternate version of “Loving Cup” and AMAZING unreleased songs like “Plundered My Soul” this shit makes me bummed anyone can write songs this good.

.

.

.

2.  Black Keys – “Blood Brothers”

Fucking amazing.  Period.

1.  Music 4 Cancer, Vol. 1

This is an amazing double disk charity album that we were honored to be a part of this year along with NOFX, Less Than Jake, Wayne Kramer, Riot Before, and a ton of other awesome bands.  All the money raised went to cancer research, something we try to be as active in as possible.  Jay (the guy who put it together) and his family have an amazing story of survival and hope we can relate to WAY too well.  It is a great record and an even greater cause everyone should check out.
