Why did they choose the name Tiger Army?

Ever wonder where some bands come up with their band names?  Well, we do, and we’re sick of sitting around scratching our heads about it.  We’re hitting the streets (aka. “Internet”) to find the origins behind some of the more bizarre, intriguing or just plain random band names in the scene.  Every Wednesday we’ll be pulling the curtain back on a different band and this week it’s Nor-Cal Psychobilly mainstays Tiger Army.

According to frontman Nick 13 in an interview with Hot Topic, Nick mentions that “the Tiger is a solitary, independent animal and that the spirit is represented in the people who find their way out of the mainstream into different kinds of alternative culture or subculture, the people who are searching for something, who don’t just except what is handed to them. That’s the Tiger Army, all the people who share that spirit and relate to our music. The rest of the human race are cows, sheep. herd animals with a herd mentality.” There you go!

  • I had always thought they had taken their name from the sci-fi novel “Ender’s Game.” I find a lot of irony in Nick’s explanation insomuchas it was given while participating in an interview with Hot Topic, the epitome of commercialization and conformity.. Anyhow, it doesn’t get anymore mainstream and any less psychobilly than Tiger Army, and I’m not even one who believes in the OTMAPP law proclaimed by self-indulging P. Paul himself..
