Reverend Horton Heat discusses the meaning behind “Longest Gonest Man”

Fans of The Reverend Horton Heat‘s live shows might recognize the song “Longest Gonest Man,” and fans will finally have a chance to own a recording of the 30-year-old track.  The song will be featured on the psychobilly trio’s upcoming album, REV, which will be released on January 21st via Yep Roc Records.

According to a recent interview, the “reverend” Jim Heath said that the demo of “Longest Gonest Man” was given to the Sex Pistols‘ Johnny Rotten by a dj in Dallas thirty years ago.  Apparently Johnny liked what he heard, and the band has kept the song in their live sets ever since. The rest of the album will be a return to the good ol’ psychobilly rock you’ve come to love from The Reverend Horton Heat.  It will be a welcome change for some fans, after the band released the country album Laughing and Crying with the Reverend Horton Heat in 2009.

You can listen to “Longest Gonest Man” below, and while you’re at it, check out the video for “Let Me Teach You How to Eat,” also off of the REV album.  The video features burlesque dancer Michelle L’Amour.
