Down By Law reveal cover art for upcoming 7-song EP

Down By Law have officially revealed the cover art for their upcoming 7-song EP, which is currently being mixed and is expected to be released sometime this December. Here’s a little description of the record, taken from the band’s Facebook page:

“This group of songs will please DBL fans that dig our more melodic, Jam/SLF inspired side. Also, it always seems that every release has at least one song that has ‘Dag’ in the working title. This one is no exception.”

We’ll keep you posted as more details on this EP come to light. Down By Law’s latest release “Champions At Heart,” their first album in 9 years, came out last August via DC Jam Records.

Ok, here’s the deal:

We will be putting out a 6 song (at least) ep in December. The exact date will be announced later. It’ll be available on both compact disc and as an online download via bandcamp.

We will be taking preorders from now until Nov. 8th. Preorderers (is that a word?) will recieve the CD a week before it’s available to everyone else, as well as an 11×17 poster signed by the whole band. The preorder price is $13.70, which includes shipping in the continental US. We can do foreign orders as well, but PM me the address as the shipping will probably be a little more.

Paypal address is [email protected] Be sure to include your mailing address (duh).

We’ll be adding more details as they come. Please help by spreading the word as this is totally D.I.Y. and we can use all the help and promotion we can get.

Thanks!

Random Cover Song: Down By Law – “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” (The Proclaimers)

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

Today’s cover comes from Down By Law with their rendition of The Proclaimers’ famous song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. The cover is from Down By Law’s 1994 classic Punkrockacademyfightsong album, while the original appeared on The Proclaimers’ 1988 album Sunshine on Leith. You can listen to the cover and compare it to the original here.

Down By Law signs to DC-Jam Records, working on new full-length

Those of you old enough to remember Down By Law will be stoked for this story. The punk rock veterans are heading back to the studio to put the finishing touches on their first new release since 2003.

The yet-unnamed album is scheduled to be released on DC-Jam Records in early summer 2012 and will be available on both CD and digital delivery.

Band founder and front man Dave Smalley states:

“We are really pumped about this new record and our signing with DC-Jam. It feels really good to be back into the studio again with DBL writing new music, and we can’t wait to get on the road to showcase this album. We’ve been sitting on a few of these tracks now for a couple of years and our fans have been asking about it for a while. But we just didn’t want to rush it and wanted to wait until we found the right label partner to work with on it”.

Down By Law released their last album Windwardtidesandwaywardsails on Union 2112 in 2003.
