Random Cover Song Thursday: Dead To Me cover Fugazi’s “Five Corporations”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

The random cover song we have for you today is San Francisco punks, Dead To Me, covering Fugazi‘s song “Five Corporations.” The original song appears on Fugazi’s 1998 album “End Hits.” Dead to Me’s version appears on the “Under The Influence vol. 16″ split 7-inch with The Flatliners which was released last year on Suburban Home Records. Listen to both the original and the cover here.

I think it’s fair to say that year was overwhelmingly punk’s year to say, “yeah, we can do rock, folk, and blues better than you.” Or at least that’s what I believe, and you can see why in the ten entrees here!
