Atreyu to return from hiatus, playing Aftershock 2014 festival

Earlier in the month, we reported that Atreyu were teasing something that could have been a possible reunion.  It looks like those rumors are true, as the band has announced they will be returning after their self-imposed hiatus in 2011.  They have already announced a main stage appearance at this years Aftershock festival in Sacramento, CA on September 14th.  Here’s what some of the band members had to say about the reunion:

“The time has come,” says drummer Brandon Saller. “We have been spending the last few months planning this moment. Writing new music and thinking about the future while also reflecting on the past. We all came to the conclusion that it was the right time. Our history is too powerful to ignore forever. Our fans have given us too much. The void of Atreyu, in the world and within ourselves, had existed for long enough. We are happy to announce that after almost 4 years, the beast has risen!”

“To say we are looking forward to Playing this years AFTERSHOCK Festival is an understatement,” adds frontman Alex Varkatzas. “It’s been 3+yrs since we have rocked the stage as brothers, and to be playing with all these high caliber bands, in the state that we call home, is truly awesome.”

No other announcements have been made as to when we can expect some new music or tour dates, but we will be sure you keep you posted.

Atreyu last released Congregation of the Damned in October 2009 on Hollywood Records, and went on hiatus two years later. They hinted at the possibility of a new song a year ago, but nothing came to fruition.

Atreyu seem to be back together now as frontman Alex Varkatzas posted a message on the band’s Facebook page, which states that they could record at least one new song, which will be their first in almost four years. He writes:

“I’m thinking, if we did do 1 new Atreyu song, it won’t be for a few months BUT I would like it to be given away free to our fans. You guys have given us soo much, if we can get it done , how cool would that be??? Truly punk rock! Just thinking aloud! Enjoy Mother’s Day! I am- ALpal

Random Cover Song Thursday: Atreyu covers Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

This week, it’s Atreyu taking on the Bon Jovi classic, “You Give Love A Bad Name.” You can check out the cover and compare it to the original here. The song has been taken to a whole new level of angry this time!

Atreyu and Bleeding Through frontmen working on side project

Shortly after Atreyu‘s “hiatus” (*cough cough* BREAKUP), vocalist Alex Varkatzas revealed his new project. Twitter told us:

“Painting and jamming demos my new musical partner in crime just wrote. Short fast heavy thrashy punchy metal. Blood pumping music. I feel alive.

Oh sorry, my partner in madness is Brandan Schieppati the singer of Bleeding Through. He plays guitar, I cuss. I think he may cuss a lil too.”

Oh, so it’ll be Atreyu and Bleeding Through all over again. Didn’t see that one coming.

More news on the duo as, well, more news surfaces.

Music Video: Atreyu – “Lonely”

atreyu-logoAnother music video today.  This time from Atreyu for their song Lonely off their latest release Congregation Of The Damned.  Check it out here.  Here’s what the band has to say about the video:

Veteran Atreyu video director Sean Stiegemeier successfully captured our antics while we were on the Taste of Chaos tour in Tokyo and Osaka Japan this winter. It’s easily the most fun we’ve ever had shooting a video and it most definitely comes across in the footage and it mixes well with Seans brilliant time lapses and cinematography.

Congregation Of The Damned was released last October on Hollywood Records.
