The good folks at Light And Noise caught up with a bunch of rad artists at this year’s FEST for a few stripped down acoustic sessions. Click here to watch their “Into The Folk” session with Florida indie-punk bands Fake Problems, You Blew It! and, my personal favorite, Dikembe.

Random Cover Song: Chris Farren (Fake Problems) covers Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

Today’s cover comes from the frontman of sometimes-folk, sometimes-punk, sometimes-indie band Fake Problems, Chris Farren, tackling the song “You Send Me”. The song was originally by gospel/R&B/pop entrepreneur Sam Cooke, originally released as a single from his 1957 self titled debut album. Farren’s cover was recorded with the intention of being used for a Sam Cooke tribute put together by The Ruckus. The project is currently in the backseat,  although Farren’s cover has surfaced online for all to listen.

So how does it hold up? You can compare the two versions right here. If you like it enough, Farren’s cover is also available to download.

Guitarist Casey Lee parts ways with Fake Problems, band working on new album

Ok, don’t freak out, but Casey left the band.”  Sad to say Fake Problems has announced the departure of long-time guitarist Casey Lee from their lineup. The band states Lee left on good terms:

In November Casey told us he didn’t want to be in a band anymore. He’s basically just not into traveling so much anymore. We understand and we love him very much, and we’re all still good friends. We wish him all of the luck in the world in his future endeavors. We’ll be performing all of our upcoming shows (Naples show, Orange You Glad Fest, SXSW, Say Anything tour) with our friend Brian on guitar duties. Other than that, we’ve been working hard the past few months writing a new record, which I will tell you more about soon. OK! Sorry for the bum out but it’s all gonna be OKAY. <3″

A new album will be the band’s fourth full-length, a follow-up to “Real Ghosts Caught On Tape”, released in September, 2010 on SideOneDummy Records.
