Billy Talent cancels appearance at Groezrock due to drummer’s recent heart surgery

Billy Talent have just announced the cancellation of their appearance at this year’s Groezrock fest due to drummer Aaron Solowoniuk’s recent open-heart surgery. Yikes! Thankfully he’s feeling better and has released this statement:

“I never thought I would have to write another letter like this. In March of 2006, I wrote a letter telling you all I have MS. Now I am writing to tell you that I have a problem with my heart that needed to be fixed. On Feb 2nd, I had open-heart surgery to repair a leaky aortic valve. It’s going to take a couple months before I start feeling normal again.

In the meantime Jonny, Ben and Ian will be putting the finishing touches on our new record. I finished all of my drums in December so I’m going to take the next few months to get better.

Unfortunately we are going to have to pull out of playing Groezrock in Belgium in April. We were really looking forward to this as it was the perfect show to start touring this record. So many of our friends will be there and to share the stage with Refused was a dream come true.

To all our fans in Belgium, we promise we will make this up to you. For now, please look forward to a new single soon and new album in July.

The surgery went perfect but healing takes a while. No other shows will be affected and I look forward to seeing you all in the summer.”

Dying Scene wishes him a fast and safe recovery. Billy Talent plan on releasing a new album this November.

Random Cover Song Thursday: Billy Talent covers the Buzzcocks’ song “Ever Fallen in Love”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.  We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs.  Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs.  Good or bad.  Intriguing or mundane.  We’ll let you be the judge.

This week it’s Canadian punks Billy Talent covering the Buzzcocks‘ song “Ever Fallen In Love”.  Check the cover and compare it to the original right here. The cover song is a bonus track from their album “Billy Talent II.” The original version appears on Buzzcocks 1978 album “Love Bites”.
